I have a keeley modded ts-9 so that's pretty close anyway but what I do is have the tone at 11 o clock, level on full and the drive at about 9 o'clock - from there I boost the mids with my Blues deluxe and use the ts-9 to drive my amp. Of course, that only works with valve amps...

Yeah, I need to experiment more with lowering the drive and upping the level, but with my Twin Reverb it just gets sooo d@mn loud that I can't ever seem to get the level very high without blowing things off the wall (even if I lower the drive to compensate).

I know what you mean. My Vox AC30 makes my ears ring!

If you really want to get closer to the SRV sound, you have to remember that he always tuned down and used heavier gauge strings(.011 I think) to get a nice fat tone without a ton of distortion. Overdrive would be more the sound from his old Fender 40 watt tube amps.
Check out some of the old Austin City Limits performances to get an idea of what is goin' on!!!

You mean like that old 40 watt Vibroverb that Cesar Diaz (of blessed memory) built for him?? The equivalent of mixing nitromethane with your usual motor fuel!!

Fender's built a tribute amp to him. For around 2K you can explore that tone.
