Has anyone ever seen something that looks like a round rubber stamp about 1/2 inch in diameter inside the pickup route? Also on the body where the neck attaches? The stamp is a black circle and inside the circle is something that looks like a paw print - but only three pads to the paw. This is on an old strat sunburst body. I have spent hours trying to date this body - but i can only get within a decade. The bridge has pat pend on it. There are no paint holes in the body. The routes are rounded, not squared off. The original neck was rosewood - but is long gone. So i am hinging on this one strange marking that i cannot find written up anywhere. Help!!Image

I don't know about that stamp, but that could be a late '60's. I mean the second half of the sixties.

Now there's an interesting bit of trivia we can explore. Were the production line craftsmen ever assigned rubber stamps with symbols cross-indexed to their names?

ZZDoc...if you find that level of minutia interesting you are beyond hope!  Even if they did assign them, who would keep that kind of records...maybe the CIA or the NSA, but I doubt Fender would.

As for the OP's question of "Who Can Date Me"...don't know about the rest of you, but I would need at least a 8 1/2 x 12 Glossy to make that kind of decision!

All excellent responses!! I will call Snowden and get the CIA involved.

I will also beg the administrator to allow me to post a picture as i am a lowly entrant into this maze.

You don't need "permission" to post pics. Just the savvy to know how to do it.

And if Mr. Snowden is unable to help, perhaps Ms. Bradley might be of assistance.

open a photobucket account, put your pictures there. Then on the right, there should be a IMG code you can copy and paste in here and that will paste your photo in the forum.

This thread isn't about what I thought it was going to be about.

Who can date me? That question conjures up a different image in my mind.
Kind of exciting and risque as well ... what with inserting postage stamps inside things.
Very avant garde.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

That "dating" joke was funny the first one hundred times.
