I was wondering if any of you had any insight into this. I'm in the process of ordering a relatively new MIJ Fender '68 Strat reissue, and when I get it, I'm considering setting the tremolo up as a floating tremolo. However, I'd like to get it like Ritchie Blackmore did on his black '68 Strat. I've heard that generally, people set it up so it's floating 1/8" off the body, yet that seems like it's too little for some of the notes he's getting as seen in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiNriG8KpDI. So I suppose my question is how high should I set it to be able to bend up like Blackmore does, as well as how to get it to stay in tune like that, since he's really abusing that whammy bar, yet he goes right back to playing without it, as if nothing happened.

If anyone has any info regarding this, that would be extremely helpful! Thanks!

I don't know how Blackmore had his set, but I believe that the highest spacing that Fender has recommended was 3/16th inch.

Give it a try.
