Basically when Fender and Gibson jumped into that lawsuit over copies.
They then proceeded to take control of said market.
They now dominate the cheap import copy market by imitating themselves with import subpar product.
Really a good business move but still even with their stamp of approval I will take the real thing.
I kind of avoid Great Value Ranch Dressing as well
Bottom line you get what you pay for and if it seems to good to be true, it usually is.
I was raised in a Gibson house but always was a Fender boy at heart.
Nothing personal its just business.

Oh and PS you should hear the John Deere International arguments around here :)

It seems your older though. Like me you probably remember when fugi made Aria etc instead of calling them Orville and Epiphone before the lawsuit.
Same stuff.

Which do you like better on the Les Paul, P-90s or HBs? I'm kind of dig the P-90s. I also like the pickups in my '98 PRS McCarty. I find that the pickups Gibson uses in the LP Std. are too mid-rangy, beefy and hot.

Hey Paris buddy how you been?
I think in the Mexico lines they just use the cheapest stuff they can.
I mean look at what they sell those for.
Its not JUST the American workers salary but the cheaper hardware, wood and paint.[/quote]

I'm doing well. In class, recording my own music with friends, and playing the hell out of my Home built Andy Summers Tele. Even though I've been a Strat player for the past 20 years, I really dig this guitar.

I noticed that Teles are making a really big comeback. They've become favorites of rock, heavy metal, funk and jazz players.

How KC, MO? I really miss Weston, MO and all the really nice people and wonderful music there.

Hi guys,

How is everyone doing? I have MIM 70s reissue in black that is well looked after and never dropped.

While cleaning it yesterday, i came across a huge tear in the paint at the lower cutaway...

It's the paint and not the body. Pressing down on the crack I can feel the paint flexing up and down. Whereas a body crack will not have the same effect.

Was just wondering what could be the cause of this. Is it the weather and humidity. I find it surprising because all my other guitars - all older (epiphone, ibanez and squire) - are still in tip top shape. I clean and wax all my guitars regularly.

Even more confusing was that this is not a stress area like the neck or the upper cutaway where the strap locks are.

Someone told me it's because fender paint, especially on the 70s reissue, are too think and more susceptible to cracking.

Anyone else with a similar experience.

It's heartbreaking... I don't mind battle nicks on the guitar and such but an unexplained crack is disappointing.

Will post pics as soon as I can get my hands on a camera.

Hi Takumi4,
Hey if ya get a chance can you please PM me the information on your guitar----serial number- where ya bought it etc? Like to have more info before I poke my big nose into it.
**********************
The neck pocket, by the way, is ALWAYS a stress point for finishes or, to put it another way, an area of the body that is "more open" to that sort of thing happening. Shimmilou's pic shows what looks to be overtightening of the neck screw. I've seen Neck slot cracks on Lacquer---Polyurethane AND Polyester (80's Contemporary Series MIJ's come to mind).

All the best,
rob

I thought so too Rob. In my defense, I bought it used and it was already cracked by the previous owner. He gave full disclosure, and I don't really have a problem with these types of cracks, the guitar still performed perfectly and the cracks weren't even noticeable while playing. :)
