That looks like a real killer. I like that it steps away from those massive frets on the American Special (to each his own, ofcourse).

+1

And a selection of color options to suit.

If they sound as good as they look, I foresee a NGD in the near future. :D

A 68 reissue? That could be nice. I have purchased from Ishibashi too

Yeah I really like the looks of it. I always liked the Synchronized Tremolo script underneath the 70's style logo.

How long does it usually take for Ishibashi to respond? I also inquired about a 71 Reissue Strat (which has all the build specs of the 68 but looks like the 72) but I haven't heard back about either.

The American Special (or a Highway One) does have that 1968 - 1970 vibe, but it's not a fullblown reissue (if that's important to you). It is American made though.

Indeed it does. I'm not sure it would bother me right off the bat, but it could bother me in the future, which is why I'm leaning more towards the Japan models. The American Specials do look and sound cool though, and they have the added benefit of being readily available, so I don't have to buy one sight unseen, though I've heard that's not a huge issue when it comes to Japanese Fenders

Better to give Ishibashi a call, emails can sometimes not be responded to. I got my strat put on hold while I drafted the money in to their account after I called them

And it's versatile! Has an active V6 rotary system offering a wide array of tones ranging from shimmering clean to scorching dirty.

Kinda sorta of "Varitone meets TBX/MDX" :D

It's a little difficult for me to call because of the time zone difference. It's a 13-hour difference, and they're open from 11:30-8:30 Japan time, which is about 10:30pm-8:30am here. I tried e-mailing again, using a different form, and this time I got a confirmation e-mail saying it sent, so maybe I will get an actual response this time!

I think it looks great and probably plays/sounds great too... MIJ/CIJ instruments have always been top notch (with the exception of cheaper models using poorer quality pots and switches).

These days I think it really just boils down to whether you can live with having Japan, Mexico, or China stamped on your guitar... the quality is pretty high across the board unless you're going after a $99 budget model. I say go for it! 8)

Sweetwater has 4 or 5 of them in stock currently.. the FSR '72 that is.

Yeah they certainly look nice. I would certainly not mind the MIJ marker on it. In a weird way I'd almost be proud to have the MIJ marker, since their of such high quality. I once owned a '67 Reissue which was outstanding, but extenuating circumstances forced me to relinquish it. The only thing I'm concerned about at this point is how I'll feel about the basswood body on it, especially if I can get one of the other reissues from Ishibashi with Alder (68) or Ash (71) body, which also have Texas Special pickups in them (which I happen to like). Once I hear back from them, I guess I will decide what I will do. If I do the 72 Reissue, I will certainly purchase from Sweetwater, since they give it a setup before it goes out.

Just an update, I ended up ordering a '68 MIJ Strat in black from Ishibashi, and I could not be more excited! I imagine I'll have it within a week, I suppose that remains to be seen though! I'll let you all know how it is when it arrives. Until then, feast your eyes on this!

Agreed, thanks for the suggestion! So far I've been very impressed with their service, the international sales guy was super friendly via e-mail and they've been very prompt, even with the time zone differences, which are pretty significant (13 hours!).

I'll let you all know as soon as I get it! I'm very excited!

My orders from them got to me very quickly, just a couple days to the west coast.

I hope it's in good condition.
