I am currently in talks with this guy from Craigslist and he states he has a Fender 62 Re-issue that he wants to sell for $995. Here is a link to the ad.

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/msg/4000764517.html

The guy states that the neck has been changed with a fender custom shop neck. He also told me that there is no serial number on the back of the neck. As you can see there is no serial on the neck plate either. Let me know what you guys think of this asap!. I am meeting him at noon today to check out the guitar.

A custom shop neck should be expected to have a custom shop decal on the reverse side of the headstock. Were I interested, I'd insist on disassembling the instrument to determine the provenance of all the parts before writing a check. The asking price does seem reasonable but there may be some wiggle room.

Wrong pickguard for a '62 means possibly wrong body. Too much money for partocaster.

Well just got back and the guitar turned out to be fake as hell. No serial number anywhere. Not even a fender body! He looked at me crazy when I asked if I could take out the pick guard and look underneath. Not even texas special pickups. Definitely not even a fender neck. It looks as if a water slide decal was applied and there were bubbles everywhere in the decal.

You were wise to seek counsel beforehand and wiser still to walk away when the facts belied the seller's assertion.

Score this one as a "win", Jerry!

You got lucky my friend. From the photos, it was awful close. Close inspection pays off!

Glad to hear that you did a thorough inspection and ended up not getting it.....this is one of the "better" fakes that I've seen posted on here in a while.
