Hello All-

I have a 1970 Strat that has been worked on over the years-new pots-and the output and ground wires were toast, burnt and very short, which made taking off the pickguard a pain. I used 24 gauge AWG wire to replace the original wires. I made them long enough to facilitate easy removal of the pickguard-about 8-10 inches long. Will that extra length cause any problems. Everything fits in the cavity. I have another early 70's strat and the original leads to the jack are short as well. Thank you.

Hi,

There are likely to be contrasting opinions here...but here are mine:

IIRC, 22AWG stranded is common...but anything close should work fine.

Shorter lengths are better...mostly to reduce any acquired noise...but the pickups are doing a find job of that themselves, so it isn't clear to me how much extra opportunity there is from longer hookup wire. You can twist long lengths of signal/ground pairs to help a bit...

The wires should fit in the available spaces without binding or pinching.

I was more concerned with loss of signal strength from the pickups. The guitar is just as quiet, if not more, than with the old wire. I replaced the ground wire from the tremolo as well as from the output jack, wired up the jack, pulled the wires to prevent excess wire in the cavity and sniped it. I left a little extra so the wires aren't yanked when I open her up.

Shoudnt make much of a differance, nothing volume and setting the pups up propery cant put right... Bigger difference would be using a different lenth cable to ur amp... A few cm wont make a noticable difference
