Ok, not the first time I wire a Strat but I got those pots online and the only way I get this volume pot working correctly is when lug 2 and 3 are shorted. If they're not (as is the standard wiring) I get an open loop, weird because at 0 I get about 0k and at 10 I get around 5.7k as normal, just somewhere in between the pots freaks out. Ever seen this?

Nothing connected to the pot ? Or with pot in circuit ?

if you need to short lug 2 and 3 , this mean the pot have toooooo much resistance betwen these two lug OR it is a defective pot .

Read resitance with nothin connect to the lugs

It's fully wired, I've always checked my other strats that way. I made a cable with guitar jack on one end, spliced other end and hook plus and minus to ohmmeter. It's a good way to check pickups continuity without an amp.

In this particular case though, I cant figure out this pot. I mean right now it reads correctly when shorted out on 2 and 3 lugs, maybe it'll just work that way (dont have a neck yet to fully test). I triple checked my wiring, only thing I can think is maybe a bad pot...

Yea, I can desolder all from that pot and test it by itself, just pain in the $@! :)

Most of the time if not all of the time people put new 250K pot and it always work .

You never say your pot is a 250k , It look you put the ( new , used ? ) pot you receive without any test before .

Supposed to be a new 250k, I didnt test prior to install though. Yea, never got one bad like that. Just behaves erratically as I turn the knob, starts lows, increases then goes real high and eventually goes OL then at max goes back to normal again, (5.6k for that pickup)

You need a Audio pot not Linear like your pot look .

" A " is printed on the pot for Audio . "B" printed is Linear . Also resistor are not same .

Look a very good kit with the right pots and price is very low too . I don't understand :(

So what's wrong ?

1- You forget to tell something

2- You make a mistake in wiring ot many mod ?

3- They send you defective pot

Once I get the neck ready I'll put it on and see what happens, worse come to worse I'll desolder, test that pot alone and redo my wiring.

Never had this happen with either a linear or audio pot and both will work, but just a little differently. Wiring a volume pot should be very simple. Center lug goes to the output jack of the guitar. Right lug grounded and left lug to the switch. This is with the lugs facing you. While this diagram is for a Strat Ultra the volume control is wired the same on most Strats.

Yes, same standard wiring I've been using long time now, I'll just redo from scratch.
