sunshy - that's definitely a McCarty. The McCarty and Custom 22 look alike from the top; the differences are that most McCartys have the vintage tuners, a thinner headstock (with a steeper angle), and a thicker body. Custom 22s have whatever locking tuner PRS was using at that time (plus there was a brief period around 2000 or so where they used modern-style non-locking tuners in the wrap tail Custom 22s).

Don't know why I thought the McCarty was a single cut. Thanks.

Easy source of confusion - when their Singlecut model first was introduced they used pictures of old Ted in the ads and used a truss rod cover that said "McCarty" on it for a brief period of time; the "McCarty" part was pretty quickly dropped and it was just called the Singlecut until they decided to have 2 models with different scale lengths (that was a few years after the Gibson lawsuit was settled).

John...you're forever a treasure trove of facts. One of our 'save the day'ers'.

Thanks ZZDoc. I started out with Fenders but got deeply into PRS for a while. After some time I came back to the Fenders; while the PRS are great guitars I've found that they just don't work that well for me, plus I prefer Fender-style single coils.

Ditto on the 'just don't work for me'. Been with Strats over 50 years now. I agree with you on principle about the quality of the PRS product. No argument there.I gave them a second shot with their old Hiland model. But the neck carve just did not do it. A PRS with a Clapton neck carve would do just fine for me. Haven't inquired of them of a special order, but I'm inclined to believe that would never materialize.
