I believe Donny is only suggesting that magnet swap thing with pickups that use the plastic bobbin.

The magnets are in plastic tubes that do not contact the coil of wire.

One should not attempt to do it with the fiber bobbin vintage style pickups.

Great idea Donny. I think the bridge N3 is already ALNICO V possibly unlike some of the early pickups discussed. As i understand it the other two are 2 and 3.
In case some are not aware changing the magnets will not affect the dc resistance however it will change the impedance and the Q factor resulting in higher output at certain frequencies and affecting the overall character of the pickup.
Donny Craven signature pickups has a certain ring to it though! :D

Yeah I think only a guy who has done it several times should even try it lol.

Last time I even almost pushed a rod through the web of my finger

I only do it on the Fender Plastic bobbins not the Custom Shop Fiber bobbins
The Hot Alnico 3s is what I do this to and I use older American Standards to get the Alnico 5 rods.
Any of the noiseless pickups or custom shop should not be messed with.

The Plastic Bobbins especially are designed so you can move the rods to adjust them.
They do go back in very easy and sometimes once dislodged they are loose and have to be re dipped to seal them in wax again.

THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY IS DO ALL THIS FROM THE BACK OF THE PICKUP.
The front has the tiny hair sized coil wires exposed once these wires are broke the pickup must be reworked or its useless.

An Artist Signature pickup set is certainly a serious move for Fender, other pickup manufacturers such as DiMarzio, Suhr and Seymour Duncan had built their own artist series pickups throughout the years.

You've enough skills to tweak and hot-rod electric guitar pickups for best suiting your personal taste.

Being a pickup designer and develop some of the best-sounding pickups Fender has to offer would certainly give you a vacant place among the folks at the R&D team! :D
