I've got aStrat with a HSS setup, but I want to go to a regular SSS. Is that tough to do?. Wouldn't that also make it an easier job to do? Also, how much is it going to cost? Do I have to buy 3 new pickups or just one? Which do you recommend? Am I going to need any major modifications? Do I need to buy a kit or something? Tell me everything I need to know. Thank you all for your help .

Its a lot easier than going the other way.

You need a sss scratchplate and one or more single coild pickups. You may also need to change the volume pot depending on whether or not its a 500k. 500k pots are used with humbuckers and coils and 250k pots are used with single coils, this should be stamped on the pot.

unscrew the scracth plate and remove all of the components.

Desolder the humbucker where it connects to the switch and ground.

Solder in the new pickup to the same connection on the switch and to the ground.

Refit components, refit scratchplate and away you go.

If you budget stretches to it you may want to solder a new scratch plate with three new pickups, a switch and pots.

This means you can keep your old one wired up in case you ever want to go back or put it in a different guitar.

Made easier if you don't have a vintage Strat body....most production line guitars are routed HSH now due to the great variety of pickup configurations in the line.

I would buy a new "Fender" SSS pick-gaurd. Just wire up a new pickgaurd with SSS pickups. Remove the HSS pick-gaurd and install the new SSS loaded pick-gaurd. That way if you want the HSS one day all you have to do is soder it into your guitar.

When I read questions like this, the first thing I want to know is: do you know how to solder?
