I have been thinking about getting a MIM Loan Star but came across this, Would this be a better buy. The owner says it has normal wear not abused, no fret wear.

Actually, if this is clean, no serious dings on neck or body, it is a reasonable price. These were great guitars. If you could talk the person down it is even a better deal. 1996 was the first year of the Lone Star Strat and as you most likely know, they had two Texas Special single coils and one Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates Plus humbucker. I think the color is Olympic White. Value is around $650 - $800 depending on the condition.

These are some of my favorite Stratocasters Lone Star USA all the way grab it and run if its in good shape.
Gig bag raises a concern for neck joint stress cracks look it over.

I agree donnycraven. I had this Sunburst 1996 50th Anniversary Lone Star Strat. Vintage tone, Texas growl, and lots of spank. This came with some trick wiring from Fender. In position #2, for when the bridge and middle pickups are engaged, one side of the humbucker is split off to give more equal vintage Strat quack. There is an older type ceramic capacitor on the neck pickup.

I agree with Xhefri and Donnie - good price assumng the condition is as good as it looks in the photos. It's probably going for the low end of the price spectrum because the seller has a gig bag instead of the hard case - I think these early Lone Star, Roadhouse and Big Apple models had a black tolex case w/orange interior as teh stock case instead of the plastic case that came with the American Standards.

If I remember right Billy Gibbons used that strat or liked them or had something to do with the design of the USA Lone Star and Road House.
Not for sure but seems like he did.
All I know is that is my favorite overall store bought strat the USA Lone Star.

I believe this to be correct as mine came in a vintage 70s looking black tolex case, as you described.

Check if frets need some work , $65 to $100 for light work , that what it need most of the time.

Frets must be round when new .

Brings back memories of my '97 Lone Star....same color with a nice ash veneer on the front. I had taken advantage of the super switch so that I could get the back coil of the humbucker with the neck pickup in position 3. Man, I really miss that guitar.

I sold mine to a lady in UK. They had me take it apart to ship it and the box the neck was in got ran over by a postal truck—at least had to be something like that. Totally destroyed the neck. I ended up eating the whole value of the neck and they found another neck on eBay. Was really a bummer. I lost out and they got a parts guitar. We were both cool with each other about it because they knew I went the extra mile to make a bad thing good for them. Just being a little reminiscent here! :(

I would love to have all three colors Black White and Sunburst what a great model.
The universal route really added to the sound.
Such a shame the went all Taco Bell with this one.
