So it sounds to me like a partsocaster put together by Fender's Marketing Department (which explains the pickguard/screw thing) using Custom Shop parts. It's certainly got a custom paint job!

A Factory Special Run prototype ... whose color wasn't eventually used for the run. Are you going to hang onto it?

I'd hang onto it for sure. Unless the electric guitar goes completely out of style, that things going to be worth a small mint in a few decades. I'd put it someplace safe and play it only once a year or so. I'd insure it too.

I agree. A small Kings ransom. This blind squirrel found a nut :)

Nice MOTO you got there!

I own the White Pearl Moto Set no. 95/250 pictured in this post (I posted them on Fenderforum a while back).

I managed to stumble across complete set no. 111/250 also and now have 2 complete sets.....twins!!!!

John Page was kind enough to give me a bit more info. about these fantastic sets last year when I asked him about the history and why one of the amps developed marks under the finish .....and I quote.....

"Yeah, I remember those. I think we did a run of 100 pcs of that set, but I don't remember if we completed them all or not. We did some in all white, some in abalone, some with trans colors. Fred Stuart came up with the idea based on old lap steel guitars and accordions. We had a company up in Canada do the material covering. They had some cool process to do it. Here's a pic of the set I think you're talking about. It's on pages 54-55 in the Custom Shop Gallery book.

Anyway, that's about all I can remember about it... they were pretty funky, cool!

The guitar was our Custom Shop American Classic Strat covered in the white celluloid. I seem to remember them being Ash bodies. That guitar had a standard "C" shape neck, 9.5" radius with medium jumbo frets. I believe the pickups were our Texas Specials.

"The paint finish on over the Moto was urethane, so it's not real susceptible to yellowing, but the Moto can be. I left my Moto briefcase on top of a shelf directly under a florescent lamp and it got totally wasted... very yellow, so there must be some sort of interaction there".

Good luck with it,

John

From what I can gather, Fender never completed the run of 250 (as per headstock) because the 'MOTO' process was too difficult and was eventually outlawed due to environmental reasons!

I've got complete sets 95 and 111 but if anyone has a higher number than 111 I'd be interested to know.

the MOTO's are a little unusual but in 'real life' these things are outstanding, with amazing bird's eye necks and real 'old school' Fender sound through the Blues Deluxe amp (also in MOTO! as well as the case!)

These are definitely worth holding on to as they are very hard to find - especially in other colours - a true credit to the Fender Custom Shop!

I am in agreement as to holding them. If I had to have only one guitar it would be my Moto. Someone would have to offer a Kings Ransom for me to part with this. Killer looks tone and the classic 50's vibe with the vintage hardware and V neck I have.

Great to hear from ya.

Best Wishes

Good God, this is a stunner, and what an interesting history! How bloody awesome to have a prototype piece, barely any other out there like yours. Insure it to the hilt, I say! :D

Well, well, whadayaknow? Looks like he's going for that "king's ransom" option after all, now he's shown it around a bit and whetted our appetites – so he thinks.

Mind you, from my experience of ransoming kings, he ain’t about to buy himself some royalty just yet. Couple of days to run: no bids. Let’s see how it turns out…

Eagle eyes, by the way, Darren.

Yup, this heirloom is up for sale! The starting bid isn't too bad.
I wonder what his reserve is. He's probably fishing with this one.

And it sure is an "explosion" of moto

So. Four bids; a grand-and-a-half; reserve not met.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Stratocaster ... dZViewItem

Interesting how this Ebay listing changed after Darren spotted it (above). Till then it had been listed simply with an opening price of $6500. Soon as news spread to the Forum the listing altered to open bids in the hundreds and a “buy it now” price of $4795.

Presumably Moe is still watching the Forum, therefore. Want to discuss your thinking, Moe? How come you’re suddenly selling your Moto, which you said was so precious to you?

Cheers

Thanks for that info. I didn't see the listing until after the change.

An opening price of $6500, eh? Wow.

How precious could it have been to him, he's only owned it a little over one month.

Hey guys sorry to respond so late but work does call. Ok it was put on e bay to actually better position a LP I had bought for resale. After 6 months of advertising and having the LP in a store it went no where until I listed the Strat at $6500.00 then to $4700.00 with the LP at $3995.00 and a Carvin at $1795.00.

While Mr. Moto was posted an attractive offer came from a gentleman so I unlisted it. He was not able to follow through so I re posted it as you can see at $6500.00 or make an offer.

So the question. Is it for sale? At the right # everything is for sale.
She is one sweet killer Stratocaster.

Peace

Moe
