Hello everyone:

I just bought a Fender Custom Shop Strat. It is a interesting instrument and was hoping to get information on this one.

Red Moto with Matching Red Moto Flight case. Heavy V AAA Flame Neck.

NO SERIAL #

Under the pickguard is a Serial # starting with FSR. I have been told by 3 dealers that FSR stands for "First Series Run" which could make this a prototype. Does anyone know for sure?

Any help is much appreciated.

Pics to be posted next week.

Thanks

Moe

Ok the Strat just arrived. Not quite as I was told, the case is White Moto and the FSR is in marker. Here is the link to the pics.

Again any help is greatly appreciated.

Call me wrong, but I believe that that is not flaming but rather Birdseye.

Yes you are correct. But anyone know the history of this instrument. I contacted Fender and they are looking into it. Eric at Fender was super helpful and thinks he can get info in about a week.

Mean time it looks great with my other Strats.

Thanks it is kewl. It also plays well with my other Strats. I was worried that the matching head stocks would not accept this one into the group.

The pics on the link http://www.moesguitar.com/motostrat.html show the FSR # 26 in the cavity.

Moe,
It's a beauty. But I've always read that FSR stood for "Factory Special Run" (like at Musician's Friend).

And where is the Custom Shop logo?

Whelp from what Fender Customer Service has told me in the case of Prototypes FSR means First Series Run. Yes, You are correct there are mass produced Factory Special Runs.

They have logos and serial numbers. This instrument has no Custom Shop Logo, Serial Number or Custom Shop Neck Plate. Yet Fender does acknowledge that FSR # 26 was produced.

I am starting to think that this is a parts guitar made in the factory maybe for a rep or trade show. ????????????????????

I should have further information later this week from Customer Service on this one.

Mean time it is a killer Strat!

Let us know what you hear.

But in the meantime, Google has never heard of "First Series Run." :?:

And one can read "57 Strat" in the neck pocket. This means it was really intended to have an 8 hole pickguard ... which explains why one screw is missing from the pickguard. By the looks of the control cavity, someone tried to screw a screw into the hole but it didn't take of course because that shoulder is missing from the route. Not a real Custom Shop job of it, I'd say; sorry.

And the neck is a real 'looker."

Well it doesn't matter what google has or not...It all comes down to what Fender has attached to the FSR prototype.

I do not disagree on anything with this instrument including the hole. But look closely at the solder joints. They all apear to be original, which is why I suspect this is a parts guitar. The instrument came from GC in PA and the people there are telling me the instrument came from the Cherry Hill NJ Store. They are swearing The Fender Rep Traded this in. So we shall see. The plot just keeps thickening. :)

Yes. Fender has done "moto" body finishes with birds eye necks:

This one had a serial number and a Custom Shop neck plate:

Yup I have ssen The Sunburst Moto on the Web.
This link provides some info on The Motos.

http://www.stratcollector.com/newsdesk/ ... 00173.html

Here is a quote from the link so I emailed this guy.

"I would also buy anything that is made in the MOTO finish. The Custom Shop made a bunch of these that were mainly white MOTO (popup image of white MOTO Strat). However, there were some experiments. I also saw a few that looked like bowling balls. They had blue, grey and white all swirled around. There was also a set of Fender Blues Deluxe amp in white MOTO and matching flight case. These were not so difficult to locate.

I had the Custom Shop make me five MOTO sets in other colors: Cherry Red, two-color Sunburst, Cherry Sunburst, Purple, and Blue Sunburst".
