Hi, let me start off by saying this is the first time i have built a stratocaster out of parts. now it will consist of a vintage 50's RI body (surf green), Fender Select pickups and wiring, a steel tremolo, and an american standard neck (rosewood) with vintage tuners. I know that because it is not a Fender guitar it won't go for as much, but with all fender parts, I am wondering what someone might pay for it. Also if you have any input on the guitar (good or bad) please let me know. Thank you for your time.

I sold a similar guitar some four years ago for $625......about fifteen bucks more than I had in it.

Unless you have the credibility of Xhefri or Ceri, buyers aren't going to pay for your project.

Case in point, I had owned two standard Strat Plus', a stock Midnight Wine and a Candy Apple Red that I've meticulously restored and added an Ultra Pickguard to.

The CAR was a much superior guitar, better looking, much lighter, better neck, more tonal variety. The metal parts (LSR Nut, Schaller Tuners, Two Point Trem and the pickguard) were all purchased new in the past year. All parts are Fender Strat Plus specified.

The Midnight Wine sold for nearly $1,000 earlier this year. I assume the "CAR Partscaster Plus" would barely make $700 -$800 and after ebay fees I would lose nearly $300. I'll sell the parts more readily. Hard to accept, but that's life. :|

Boy, I dunno what I'd pay for that. Seems like it ought to be worth what a used American Standard is worth (no extra for the upgraded parts unfortunately).

That's my point, a superior example of Fender's best production guitar in '93, and the worth is halved if it's not stock.

Of course the ebay way is to claim that it's a stock Closet Classic and misunderstand the Ultra Pups.

I think that an American Standard (used) can be bought under $600 pretty easily. :D

I'm seriously considering keeping the CAR Plus and selling the stock '03 Am Dlx, 2T SB. It's an early version 2 with SCN's and S-1.

At least it's stock!

I waver, much of the time I want to strip all this down to one of each guitar (electric & acoustic), one amp, 3 or 4 pedals and move all this other stuff out of my space. Come on over and pick through the guitars and amps, please!

Sorry danagos, my comment was about the OP's guitar.
I think your Plus with Ultra parts ought to be worth any other used Plus.
But of course ultimately it is up to the market, the buyers that are willing to open their wallets. The market for Pluses may not be very strong.

Whoops

And you're right, it's up to the buyer. It's OK, I'm down offa that high horse now! :D

72customshop you can always put that guitar on ebay with a reserve and see what interest it generates. Surf Green and reissue are hot talking points. I think the charge is 1% of the reserve amount, but check that first. Take good pictures and explain it in detail.

Or you can just say "you bought it from a guy who found it under his bed that way and you hate to sell it 'cause it's butter, but your old lady's in the breeze while the baby needs a new pair of shoes and the cow's gone dry like the well..."©, like so many sellers do!

Well people pay me to build their strats does that count?
Usually I buy a strat whole and play it and go oh my god that's the best guitar!
Then I go wow I wish the neck was like this and I wish it had a pop in not a screw in.
Then I say hey I want a Hot Rod or newer called Atomic Humbucker
Then of course I want it black so I try to paint the body and usually not happy
Then I order a body and I already replaced the neck and rebuilt the single coil pickups.
All the time this guitars getting played on the some of the biggest stages in my area.
But people try to buy mine all the time I get a lot of offers for my American Deluxe with Floyd Rose.
I just don't want to sell them, nothing I have at this point is for sale.
So yeah the earlier poster is right if your already building for people in town and got a rep.
Most important is if your a high profile player demoing your work out live.
Players will pay for custom mods that are cheaper than custom shop stuff.
If you are just selling to collectors they are kinda stuck on all original with all parts intact.
Best advice be ready to take a loss at first and don't use Mexican stuff use top of the line.
