Maybe a good time to pick up a good book or two about Strats, so that in the future you could spot a fake like this one from a mile away.

A great reference source, one that I use often, is "The Fender Stratocaster" 40th Anniversary edition, by A. R. Duchossoir. This book has a lot of great details about nearly every aspect of the Strat.

Thanks for the advice, but I really am not trying to rip anybody off.
if the neck is real then great, if it's a fake then it's no big deal.

Kiss Nation... One more thing, Wev'e gone to 4 pages so an additional post shouldn't require
demands of " Off with his head "

We've mentioned Squier.... There was a short time not so long ago when Fender was re-emerging.
The Squier line as we know it today was very different. The japanese Squier manufacturing was actually producing all of Fender's guitar's for a short period of time.... then Squier was also only to be sold in Asian region's.....
Point is that before you unload that neck, keep researching what it actually is and if at all possible where it came from....
Strat with your friend and then with the previous owner and backtrack.....
You never know, sometimes something is really not what we thought...
So don't sand off the logo's or do anything including selling it until you find out it's true origin.....

Last option, use it as a build neck for a project...... No better test bed than bodies and necks that were free.....

I had to change the strings on my affinity strat, so while the strings were off I tried the neck I recently acquired in my affinity. it fit perfectly but for some reason it is too small for the neck pocket on the body that came with it. obviously either my friend or whoever he got the guitar from bought a neck without checking that it fitted the body. the neck is a good 2mm too small for the neck pocket. also whoever has fitted it has fitted it at an angel in the neck pocket, probably because the neck is too small for the body.
I might just save the hassle and give it him back. I have my affinity strat that I love playing and I have an american standard on it's way to me. so I really don't need another guitar, especially one that needs a bit of work.

Thanks for the help anyway guys, I really appreciate it.
