I'd not buy that for the price of a real 1962 neck...

Your neck shows an extra pat number under the stratocaster logo. 2.9600.900.

That's because it's a real Fender neck from 1962. Stratocasters made after the spring of that year featured three patent numbers.

Could that mean this was made before 1962?
someone said it looked too new to be from 62, but what if it has been carefully stored instead of being played?

I have never seen the pat numbers on any of the reissue necks, or the fake ones, only on the real necks.

kiss nation,

Your neck is absolutely, without doubt, no question, a fake. It is not a '62 or anywhere near, it is not from any reissue, it is not even a US made neck. It looks to be a Squier neck, or even an aftermarket neck that someone painted the hole for the truss rod adjust and applied a decal. You have a couple of Squiers, right?

Gentlemen of the jury....In the practice of trial law, there's a well worn phrase. That phrase is..."Asked and answered". If I may be so bold as to seize the moment and rule from the bench. It is the opinion of this court that we have satisfied the conditions to which "asked and answered'' can be applied.

Case closed.

Next!!

But how can I sell it if it's a fake? I only took it from my friend because he didn't want it. I already have an affinity strat with an american standard currently on it's way to me, so I don't need another guitar.
I was hoping to sell it for parts if possible. but I don't know what the parts are which makes selling them difficult.

In that case, you advertise it as a Strat-type neck with an unknown pedigree. Thus, you deceive no one and perhaps someone will decide it's just what they're looking for.

Put it on eBay as a 'generic guitar neck with tuners as is" Fender logo is NOT factory. No association with FMIC intended or implied.

Keep it on for a couple of days and sell it to the highest bidder.

'You keep what you kill'.

+1, sand off the fender logo. If someone gave it to me for free I'd sell it for 50 bucks and be a happy camper.

but the logo is under the lacquer, not sitting on top of it. I would have to sand all the lacquer off the neck and then refinish it before I can sell it.
if it is indeed a fake, how did someone manage to get the logos with the fender pat numbers on them, and the pat pending under the contour body text? I don't think that fender will sell such a thing so you can make a fake neck look like a real one.

Counterfeiting trademarked product is a world-wide industry raking in huges sums, often from the unsuspecting, and more often from consumers who want the look without the cost. In guitars and parts, has been done, it is done, and it will continue to be done. The guitar consumer has to be educated and aware. Fender is well aware of the trade, and so are the members of this forum. You've had the best we can offer you as far as information regarding you question is is concerned. Anyone up for continuing this diatribe, be my guest. I'm beginning to get the strong feeling we're being had.

I'm done here.

The last time that I checked, there is a rule for selling on eBay, even if you give full disclosure, fakes are not allowed to be sold there, even piss-poor attempts such as this one.

you are being had? I'm not trying to sell it to anyone on here.
I had a guitar given to me by a friend, the body looks like a replica body but the neck looks real. so I took a few photos and posted them here to find out if I did have a genuine fender neck or a cheap replica.

Maybe a good time to pick up a good book or two about Strats, so that in the future you could spot a fake like this one from a mile away.

A great reference source, one that I use often, is "The Fender Stratocaster" 40th Anniversary edition, by A. R. Duchossoir. This book has a lot of great details about nearly every aspect of the Strat.
