Does it make sense to own both of these guitars (for a non gigging player)or are they just to similar?

Check the specs on those guitars. Compare and contrast. They have different vibes. Texas Specials in both, true, but the Special is also available as HSS. Special has 22 jumbo frets, and a 70's headstock. I have four Strats, a Bass VI, Les Paul, and an acoustic. Haven't played out in years.

How many pairs of jeans do you own?

In the old days, Strats were mostly all the same, differing only in color, body & fretboard woods, and the natural variability of the electronics. Oh, there were hardtails. Did we really need more than one? Now there's a lot more from-the-factory options -- which we need to justify our collections?

I think a better question is do we need more than 2.
The answer for me is absolutly! :)
I will keep buying strats, I have 2 Les Pauls a Custom and a Standard what else do you need? Strats have so many variations so much more to offer.
Is 10 of them enough?

Well I don't think a guy needs two black HSS Strats.

Seems a little excessive

(mine are all different colors)

I'm seeing the trend.

I always liked the black Customs with the chrome hardware. Gold hardware sucks! IMO

Yeah I had a couple over the years and the gold always wore off and bubbled up.

This one came with chrome

I would take a Silver Burst Custom but at $4000 new and about $2900 used
I think I stick with American Strats from here on out.
Easier on the back too lol.

I am considering an American Special HSS in tri burst as my next one. I have that pearl white Lone Star pickguard and all aged white plastics including an aged white Atomic humbucker.
A set of Fender locking tuners and A Blade Runner tremolo with a tweed case. Just like grampa would have it :)

I own a Roadhouse Strat in 3 color burst. I'd take an Am special in a heartbeat. I'd get it in a different color, though.
