Hi All! :)

I'm a very long-time lurker (learner) and this is my very first post here, so I'd like to start by saying hello and thanks to all of the forum regulars who provide so much invaluable insight here...you guys are the lifeblood of this place! :)

As mentioned in the thread title, I've just aquired a pre-loved, 2006 50s Classic Strat and everything seems legit but (there's always a but, right), from everything I've learned so far, there's a thing or two about it that don't look quite right, which makes me worry a bit about it's authenticity. The guitar is beautiful and flawless, and I'm not OCD or anything, as I know it's been modified a bit, but I am considering making it more "50s-like," and would like to confirm that, other than mentioned, it's all legit Fender.

The only things I know for certain to have been changed are:
-all pups, electronics have been removed/replaced with an EMG DG-20 David Gilmour pre-wired, loaded 11-hole pickguard.
http://www.emgpickups.com/products/category/11/1
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EMGDG20

As a result, the original 8 holes in the body have grown to 11 (+1 scratch, near the switch/knob cavity, where a new hole should be)

Welcome to the posting side of the Forum FenderFan! The 50's Classic Series guitars are great and you got a nice one. If you want it a little more 50's slap a new single ply pick guard with some 50's Custom Shop Pickups. Also, you need to change the bridge saddles back to Fenders. They should say "Fender" on both sides of the sloted hole the string comes up through.

If you're really really anal (like some folks here, heh heh heh) you replace those generic saddles with true vintage repro's stamped "FENDER" and "PAT.PEND." like original Strats from the '50s and '60s.

Congratulations on finally coming out of the closet :!:

Now take some advice from this old man. Leave it alone :!: Find another guitar which will satisfy the vibe you're looking for. You've got a great guitar there with extremely creative electronics. An active pickup system, with not too heavy a boost, noiseless, and tweakable to a variety of EQ'ing. Gilmour's been using this setup in the Red Strat specifically because of those characteristics. I bought, installed, used and eventually disposed of same because I was stupid. If 'I had kept my mind', as the old song says, I'd still have a great looking '97 FSR natural finish American Standard Stratocaster in my herd.[.and a '93 natural finish TelePlus for that matter].. Experience is a great teacher. UFFFF!!!

Issues with the battery placement??? Well...because, with two exceptions, I set up my Strats with a blocked trem, like my Clapton, I removed one spring from the trem cavity put the battery in the center, and ran the wire around into the control cavity. Makes having to lift the entire pickguard unnecessary. I am confident that you could still have the bridge float if you so desired.

If you're still hell bent on swapping it out, have a look at http://www.siglermusic.com for replacements.{guitar>guitar parts>920D custom pickguards]. Bear in mind, you're also going to have to invest in new bridge hardware as suggested. Is the financial juice worth the squeeze?? Well...we around here are of the opinion that you can't have too many guitars....and definited NOT too many Strats. So save it on this one and go for number two with the coin you don't spend today. Consider the American Vintage Series, the Eric Johnson model, the '57VHR as possible, vibe-oriented options. Check the specs.

Well, that's my two cents. Ya pays fer ya ticket and ya gets on board.

The things that I'm not sure about:
-lack of markings (stamps/writing/etc) on the body and neck
-neck tint on both sides of nut
-odd bridge saddles (look very Squier-like)
-if the saddles have been changed (why?), has the entire trem, block, etc been as well? Note: The string spacing of the bridge appears to be vintage (2-7/32")

I'm pretty confident that everyone here loves guitar-porn, and when looking for information, more is better, but I'm not sure if photos or links are preferred, so I apologize if I've over done it a bit.

Aside from the oddball extra pickguard holes drilled into the body and the non-standard bridge saddles, all is as it should be for a 2006 MIM Classic Series '50s Strat. It could be returned to dead-stock condition quite easily.

Well, I s'pose for $350, I did OK on it. :)

Maybe I'll just replace the saddles for now and keep my eyes open for some CS 54s or Fat 50s and electronics and slap together a white, single-ply pickguard for it. It will be a fun project guitar. While it's currently in amazing condition, it's not like this is a collectable or anything.

I'll likely keep the EMG DG-20 pickguard too, as it is a bit unusual...though I already have a '95 Strat Plus Dlx, w-B/S/R FLS pups and want something else that's a bit different.

As for the Eric Johnson sig model, I so, so want one and have my eye on a pretty minty, locally-owned, June '06 model, complete with OHSC and case candy...for $1200
