I played them, not bad. They were supposed to part of Fender's lower end, and part of replacing the Mustang/Duo Sonic, etc family.

Well they were better than the Fender Bullet, but not as good as a Mustang.

I didn't get any of the Lead series, but I did get a Mustang.

CBS was trying to make cheap guitars from spare parts during those years. "got enough wood left over to make a ten piece body? well do it then!"

Well, I think they turned out better than the Custom & the Swinger.
(Which were also ways to use up wood and parts.)

There was a modded Lead One on Craigslist here in North Jersey recently. It had a single coil added to it with what looked like a Kahler trem and some type of locking nut. I don't remember if he wanted $300 or $350 for it.

If it's in good shape that would be a good price.

Even if you didn't like the pickups, for that price you could put decent ones in it. But then it also depends what you're looking for.
