Hello. I have few guitars yet but I have never had any strat guitar so I decided to buy it. But I have 2 problems:
1) I can't play them because we don't have any official dealer or big musical store in 600 ml around (Russia is quite big, yeah).
2 ) I have no friends with American Strats :)

So I found two options which I can Afford:
A) 1987 Black Fender American Standard Stratocaster (e series) with maple fretboard in good condition for 1150$ (but tuners changed to Schaller Locking). Seller says it has original pickups and little fret wear. With case.
B) 2009 3-color sunburst American Standard Stratocaster Ash with Rosewood freatboard. Like new condition. Also original package with case. Price is 1120$.

I just want to buy a good one and add some glassy straty sounds to my palette. So I appreciate you help and wait for answers. Thank you.

If the 1987 was a vintage reissue, I'd say go for it, but it's not, so go for the newer one.

+1

Sunburst over ash is usually a quite dramatic finish.

You referred to a "glassy" sound. If it was me, I'd get a maple neck American Special, not the Standard. Slightly over half the price of the Standard, and a very fine guitar. I bought one as a "backup" to my '62 Reissue, and Les Paul, and play it all the time, now; the others have become "backups."

Both guitars sound pretty good to me. I would personally go for the 2009. It will have more accurate contours, better pickup, neck shape and bridge block.

The rosewood neck of the 2009 will also have a slightly warmer sound. The maple neck will have a bright tone. Think of the difference between Eric Clapton's Blackie and SRV's Number 1. Blackie: maple neck, brighter tone. 2. Number 1: rosewood neck, warmer tone. I like both style of necks. It just depends on my taste at that moment.

Before you buy either, play them through YOUR amp (or one like it). In the end picking a guitar, especially a Strat is a very personal choice. Every Strat is different and each will have its own pluses and minuses.

Удачи и Пока!
