It is a MIM serial # MZ6195564, manufactured in 06/07 and has a Humbucker at the bridge. Some of you seem to think it is an HSS. I would love to confirm what it is and what the differences are to that model. Here are pics as requested.

Thanks

HSS simply means Humbucker/Single coil/Single coil, refering to the pick ups. But whether it's a Deluxe or a Standard HSS depends on the Pick Ups. The Deluxe will have a Fat Strat Humbucker and Two Tex Mex Single Coils, while the Standard come with Standard pick ups.

The recent Deluxe models have Black pickguards, so your white pickguard makes me suspect a Standard HSS Stratocaster.

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense, Humbucker-Standard-Standard. Is there a way to recognize the difference in the pickups by my pics? It probably is a standard, but it would be good to know. Also is there a way to put a value on it. All I see on the website are the U.S. products - no Mexi. Just curious - it still plays amazing!

Thanks

Hi, nice strat. This seems to be a nice Standard Fat Strat or HSS made in Mexico.

How do you tell if it has Tex-Mex?

First of all, the standard single coil pickups can be distinguished by the height of the magnetic poles. The low and high E strings should be about the same height as the pickup cover and the the 2nd and 5th string poles are a little higher and the 3rd and 4th string poles are still higher. Forming an arch that resembles the radius of the fret board. Also the standard pickups have beveled edges on the pole pieces.

The Tex-Mex pickups have a more traditional staggered pole height. The 5th and 6th poles are about the same height (About mid height) and the two middle poles are higher than the rest. The 1st and 2nd string pole heights are about the height of the pickup cover. Also the pole pieces are flat with sharp edges unlike the standard pickups.

I own four standard strats and upgraded two of them to Tex-Mex.

Many thanks!
So I am the proud owner of a MIM HSS Standard Strat. I really appreciate the info as [b]THIS IS MY FIRST ELECTRIC GUITAR! And even though I've always played acoustic and banjo and stuff, I've always loved Strats. As I am no longer young (other than at heart!) it's cool to actually get excited again about playing.
So I'm new at this and will probably continue to bug you people about other stuff (what kind of Humbucker?)

Thanks again,

Gridlok

While we're on the subject of tex-mex pickups, what are the tonal differences in tex-mex and normal pickups? Are they just a hotter overall pickup, or are there actually differences otherwise in sound?

Yup, I'm gonna have to go with Standard Fat Strat. If you want to can shoot an email over to Fender Customer Service and they usually have a pretty good idea just from the serial # of when and how it was made. That doesn't mean that someone hasn't changed it since then though. I don't know if you purchased new?

Suppose one had a tech pull that pickguard and spec out the pickups and the routing. That ought to count for something.
