Looks like it's been in a closet for decades. Original owner must have stored it well. Dig that grain on the neck

I agree...but if it is authentic... too much trickery to believe anything anymore.

no that can't be an authentic 58.......... can it?
even if it was stored away for years there would have to be some aging... it just looks far to clean.. like it has never been touched.

In the '50s, just like today, people bought good guitars fully intending to learn how to play, then give up after a short time and just put the guitar back in its case and stuff it into a clost or slide it under the bed.

There really are museum quality '50s guitars out there. They rarely go up for public sale - they usually go from the vault of one rich serious collector to another rich guy's vault.

I'm not saying it's real. I'd want an indepedant expert to physically examine it. But it's entirely possible it's real. Kept out of the sun, away from smoke, with reasonable temp and humidty, guitars can look new forever.

Very good point.

If true then very cool to see such an old strat in such good condition

But ouch the price tag!

In my view, it's totally authentic. All the dated components are consistent for a 1958 instrument and the hardware and pickups appear to be original and unmolested. The two-piece center-joined body is noteworthy while the original lacquered-tweed case and OEM candy are an added bonus.

Is it worth forty-eight large?

As they say......

They're not making these anymore.

Yes, hard to believe...it looks spectacular!

However, check out the corrosion on the six trem screws and the saddles.

Also, the green tinted text on the volume knob is a similar kind of aging that happened on my '75.

Single-ply pickguards are always available...but it could be original...

The pots, switches, cap, and wiring also look appropriately old.

And...it has the bridge cover!

Can we get a Carbon14 analysis done?

Can anyone get a clear read of the serial number on the neckplate?

It could be real...

???

+1, That is one of the most beautiful stratocaster necks I've ever seen. 8)

The Serial looks to be: 027341

...and so, based on the Fender Support pages:

20,000s to 30,000s 1958

They seem to have put the right serial number on the neckplate...if it is a fake...but it is looking more real as the day wears on...

Still out of my price range, no matter how sweet it looks...and possibly sounds.

Cheers.

Way too clean, too perfect. I don't think it's had much love.
