I'm thinking about getting one. Every picture I've seen has a weird colored maple neck compared to the other color options. And I would be ordering it online and wouldn't see the neck before purchase.

Does anyone know if the maple neck looks like this orangish/reddish color?

http://www.fender.com/guitars/stratocaster/classic-series-50s-stratocaster-maple-fingerboard-daphne-blue/

or if it looks like a normal maple neck like the other color options have?

Thank you

I think it could vary. That stock Fender pic in question does look a bit orange. The classic 50's have a tinted neck, my surf green is tinted, but not orange like that.

The necks on the black and surf green ones look less tinted than most I've seen in real life, and the one on the Daphne Blue one looks more orange than any I've actually seen.

Color balances in pictures are difficult. Pre-prep people in printing and web work tear their hair out trying to get colors accurate, and when trying to show the different body colors they adjust the pics to get the bodies pretty close to being accurate, which can throw off the neck colors.

And as Arnold said, the neck tints do vary in real life -- some are a little heavier tinted, some are a little lighter tinted.

Ordering sight unseen, I think it's unlikely you'd get something as orange as that pic of the Daphne Blue one.

Among the big online retailers, Sweetwater generally offers the best customer service. If you contact them they'll let you talk to a sales rep who'll personally check out the guitar and make sure the one they send you doesn't have a super-orange neck. Their prices are about the same as the other big places. (But they'll pester you for years trying to sell you other stuff.)

Last time i was on Sweetwater, you could see several views of the guitar you were looking at before deciding to buy. I never bought from them, so IDK, but I remember if there were more than one choice, you could see the different pictures, and it told you the SN# of the guitar you were looking at. Never saw that option on other websites, but if they still do that, at least you can see the subtle differences and make a choice.

I just checked Sweetwater, and yes they do show pics of the actual Classic'50s models they have in stock. Unfortunately, right now they only have Surf Green and Sunburst, no Daphne Blues in stock.

+1

The image in the first link looks to be over-processed, with way too much contrast and color saturation. However, the necks on the guitars in the two subsequent links look too "white" -- more akin to a Corona-made AVRI. My two '50s Classic Series Strats built in 1999 (one 3TSB, the other Surf Green) have near-identical neck tints, and not nearly as intense (ie: "orange") as the guitar shown in the first link.

Yeah I saw those pictures on those other sites. I was hoping they were all copies of the same original picture. I wanted that Daphne blue. I think I'll look for it in a different Strat. That neck is just too much.

I don't think you will get a neck that dark color, pretty sure it's just how the picture was processed as stated above. However, more important on the neck, you may want to make sure you will like the 7.5 radius with the v shape.

THis shop has 1 as well, his picture is not as dark, and is probably a better idea of the right color.

The 7.25 v neck isnt an issue. All of my Strats are v neck with that radius. I dont have one in Daphne Blue though. The first Strat I ever played was the v neck and it was perfect. I've never wanted another neck. I played one of the new modern C's recently and was surprised by how comfortable and easy it was to play. It might be time to consider Strats that don't have v necks.

As far as the 50's classic Daphne Blue, based on the feedback I'm going to pass on this one. I was hoping to hear that the necks look like normal maple. And that every website was using the same stock photo that was distorted in color.

Actually they look normal in the link above at Daves shop.

Take a look at one in a shop if that's possible. I've a feeling you'll be less dismissive of the guitar once you see it in person. Visually, they're quite pleasing -- like all of the Classic Series instruments.

+1 on that. I thing the 50's classics are dollar for dollar one of the best Strats out there. More true to spec than it's Gringo cousin, and an with a few minor upgrades, you got a really top notch AXE!

I think the pic at Dave's is more along the lines of the tint you get, but before you write it off, do as Arjay suggested, and go try to see one in person.

The tint varies depending on the light and the actual guitar but here are some better examples
