In those early days of MIM, the quality wasn't so good. It has improved greatly over the years.

There were at least two Mexican Strat models in '96. The Standard and the Tex-Mex. The next year the Tex-Mex became the Jimmie Vaughan Tex-Mex Signature model. It's hard to find info on the original Tex-Mex model (as opposed to the Jimmie Vaughan), but most of what I've read say the originals had US Vintage bridges and tuners along with Tex-Mex pickups, and the only difference between them and the Jimmie Vaughans was the change from a C shaped neck to a V shape.

If you email your serial to Fender Customer Relations they should be able to tell you what you've got.

The two coils side by side are called a "humbucker" -- it's actually a single pickup (though some have a switch to turn off one of the coils). It's louder and thicker sounding than a single-coil pickup, and it rejects/cancels noise (fluorescent lights, neon, dimmer switches, transformers, old-style TVs generate noise that can be picked up by single-coil pickups, creating buzz/hum through your amp).

Strats with a humbucker in the bridge position are generally called "Fat Strats" or HSS Strats (Humbucker Single Single).

After Googling it, there was a '96 Mexican Fat Strat -- a Mexican Standard with a humbucker in the bridge postion (that's why I said there were at least 2 Mexican models in '96 -- the Mexican Standard Fat Strat has long been a part of the Mexican line, but I didn't remember when they were introduced).

But it's also a very common owner modification, so without seeing a bunch of clear pics it's hard to say exactly what it is.

While the quality of Mexican Standard pots and switches improved in the 2000's, the mid/late '90s Mexicans were pretty good guitars. If you've tried it and like the way it sounds, the way it plays, and the way it feels and looks, you probably will be happy with it. Typical prices are in the $150 to $250 range here in the US.

With the minimal info you've given us, it's impossible to say more than that.

Having trouble understanding you, assume english is not your first language. From the little chart you tried to draw I think you are trying to describe the pickups, not mics. from your diagram it looks like the guitar in question has 1 humbucker and 2 single coils.... || | |

That would be what they describe as a fat strat.
It is possible to be a tex-mex strat, or a Jimmie Vaughn as mentioned above.

I haven't seen it to tell you if it's worth it, but I wouldn't pay more than $250 in excellent condition, and that had better at least include a gig bag.

I have one of these and I wouldn't sell it for $500. Worth way more than $250 and at least as good as my American Standard. Actually has better intonation.

Honeboy
