Hi burke840,

There are so many different types of amps, and a Mustang might be fine for your needs, a practice amp basically.

You could help with our suggestions with some more specific info about your needs, volume requirements, style of music, in a band, budget, etc.

But really, this is a topic for the amp forum.....being as how you are asking about amps.

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

I just bought a mustang ll recently. I also have a blues deluxe reissue. I needed an amp that was light and easy to move around for jamming or playing around the house.

I tried many small amps, and imho the 'stang stood right up there. I have been playing for over 50 years, and would not be shy about showing my musical friends this amp.

enjoy it, and play the heck out of it!

You could always buy (or build) a Blackface Deluxe Reverb clone. Pretty popular amp and for good reason. So popular Fender makes a re-issue version as well but for about 30% more than the price of a re-issue you could get a clone of the real deal. Other makers could offer them cheaper as well.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

As was said, it all depends on what your playing style is, and how much money you have to spend. For me. I run a Marshall DSL 100 H. Not that expensive, has everything you need effects wise, and 100 watts of pure tube power will take you on any stage in the world, and works just fine at home practicing.

I use my old Acoustic 150 solid state amp as well, had it since new in 72 when I graduated from high school, I use the 6 ,10 inch speaker cab for both amps.

Other than digital reverb and switchable gain levels, the DSL doesn't have much in the way of effects. No amp models, delay, phaser, tremolo/vibrato, built-in Tube Screamer & Big Muff emulation, pitch shifting, USB connection, all things loaded into the Mustang 1.

It costs roughly 10 times the price of a Mustang 1, plus you need to buy a speaker cab to go along with it.

As for a Deluxe Reverb clone that only costs 30% more than a DRRI, that's like 15 times the cost of a Mustang 1. And that wouldn't even have a master volume, so unless you want to play it very loud you'd need distortion pedals along with a bunch of other pedals to have the broad palette of tones built into the Mustang.

Of course those amps sound better at what they do. But the Mustang has lots of very nice sounds in it. Maybe someday Burke840 will want to upgrade, but the Mustang is far from lame.
