Yep - the body looks genuine and it really looks like the trans red they used back then. I'm not sure what it was called on the Strats and Teles; it was called "wine red" on the Lead series but it might have just been called "transparent red" on the other models. That being said the version that was used on Strats and Teles was slightly lighter/redder than the version used on the Leads that was slightyl more purple and a bit darker. Of course the kind of finish Fender used on the Strats and Teles also didn't turn milky and crack like the finish used on the Leads, so that likely accounts for the color difference.

Some examples - here's a photo of my old '79 Lead II from circa 2001 (I still have the guitar; just haven't done a more recent photo as I don't play it much any more):

Image

Here's a Strat in "trans red" I pulled off of gbase - it's identified as a "1979" but we all know that an S9 serial could mean 1979 through 1981:

Here's a Tele - also from Gbase (and it's identfied as a 1980):

Thanks Magnatone!

About the body, this is a 3 wood parts so should be an MIA. Generally, MIM are in 4-5 blocks. Are you agree with that (if you check your Deluxe MIM).

Thanks G

Square head screws are definitely not from the 70's, those are a recent addition. I use them in my residential renovation projects but I would NOT use them on a guitar.
We did not have square drives back then......
The thread pattern is too steep and the screw itself is designed to both bore into an undrilled wood and lock in.... You need wood screws designed for your app....
Or better yet you could upgrade to wood inserts which is a mod I do on all my strats..
Brass insert(s) are permanently installed into the neck, then the neck is attached with stainless steel fine thread screws..... ( I have covered this in my build post.. )
This allows you to dismount and remount ( ) the neck as many times as needed.
I think Bill Frissel has this feature for his Tele so that it fits in a business case and doesn't incur the hassles of traveling with a guitar.....

I'm unconvinced that in the 70's Fender became so sloppy that they would actually install wiring and just spray right over...
I don't think you have what you think you have, my suspicions are that this is not original but a Nash alike.... :?
I could be wrong but..... there are so many very well done imitations that truly discovering the truth needs on hand inspection by an expert....

I am on the road so I did not read this whole thread. Plan too later. But Crimson Burst was used on the Strat Plus DXs and some Ultras as well around 96 onward:

There was also a transparent Red Burst, that did not have the flake in it around 96-97. It is hard to see the grain of the wood, but it is there:

Another color similar was Crimson Frost. It has the darker edges but the same reddish color in the center. The one below was a Strat Plus DX from around 1996 that I customized. This color is very hard to find:

Hi john thanks for the informations. I will check for a wine red translucid color.

Concerning the neck, it's a S7... so sounds like a 1977-78.

I'm agree with you = the tilt is a new one (missing on the body when I bought the guitar) and the screws are not the good one. Definitively.

Yes and No..... In my case I disagree as my MIM, a player's Deluxe is actually a 3 piece body, it's a 2001. There are some really nice MIM"s out there which often confuse the issue. Ironically I have two + one half....
The half is a Tele Deluxe neck with AA figuring which is the neck I used for my Telepartster I project...... ( still ongoing )
The other exception is a 1998 black strat which i just picked up ( actually will pick up next week ) . Again the neck is nicely figured and has a reddish orange patina, very much like one would expect from a vintage Strat....

This is why I said not all is as it seems and oftentimes attempting to pinpoint the origins of a guitar requires a few different people since none of us know everything about Fender's....

My red MIM is in my avatar and has also been featured in some of my threads or/and posts... ( speaking of Avatar's... The red is of course the MIM discussed herein, the sunburst is a Custom Shop 56 NOS, the black one is my Stratopartster I project.. )
Actually all my guitars have at one point or other been whored out on this Forum...
Some I still have, some have found new homes....

Thanks magnatone.. so to resume, possibly a crimson but also a red wine translucid color, possibly end of 70's but not, possibly a MIA but not...

I think I like Fender tracking ;-)

Thanks all for your time, Appreciate.

Guyom.

HI guys, Thanks for the last message... basically, I'm not sure that crimson red too. But I want to clean the body (by the way, it's a relic style but a water damage style...) so that's why I need the color. But before, I need to know if the body is a 70's one (end of course, so 78-79) or not to start the work.

Pots numbers are 1377825.

Here's the pictures,

No, inserting just the URL alone isn't enough. You must insert the IMG tags between the URL in order to display the image properly otherwise the trick will not work. The backslash will close them.

Since you've a photobucket account you can just copy and paste the code containing the tags.

haha no... but i like the "expression".

For the moment i just keep all the parts i have when i bought it, bought new pickups (69' reissues) and i'm going to rewire the new pickups with the old pots (I found the strat without pickups).
