Hi, is anyone known when the crimson transparent red arrive on strats? I found, in the middle of nowhere a S7xxxx strat with a crismon red transparent body destroyed and want to know if the body is the vintage one or not. I know like this color arrived soon on telecaster but no information on strat.
Thanks for time

G

The first time I recollect that finish being used on a Strat was around 1997, when the "Super Strat" (now refashioned as the "Deluxe Players Strat") was introduced.

Arjay - don't forget that darker transparent red (maybe called wine red) back in the 70s on Strats and Teles. If the OP has found an "S7" then it probably is a 1977 or 1978. My '79 Lead II is the Lead's version of wine red; the Strats and Teles were a bit more "red" and a bit less "wine".

Crimson Transparent didn't came into surface until 1998.

Thanks, John.

I was out of the country at that time, on the "pointy end of the spear", so I missed seeing those guitars when they were released.

Appreciate the insight.

Never saw one in crimson trans quite that colour before. Almost like faded jeans or something. It's an interesting look.

Here's mine just for comparison. Mine is just barely transparent. Most that I've seen are like mine.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Crimson Transparent is also derived from Crimson Burst in the 90's also ..

It most assuredly is not.

This finish first appeared on a limited number of mahogany-bodied Telecasters built between 1962 and 1963. Some of this lumber also found its way onto a few Stratocasters of the same time frame though the crimson transparent color was apparently not used on them.

Create a free account on an imagehost (Flickr, ImageShack, PhotoBucket) and upload your photos within.

PhotoBucket has already an option for the IMG code. Just copy and paste it and you're done.

Sorry, what I meant was that it was used on the Strat Plus Deluxe, then as the American Deluxe model came in 97/98 it was rehashed for a transparent instead of a burst.

Interesting to know, I didn't even know there was a mahogany bodied Tele made in those days- I've never seen one, i'll have to google that one when I get the time..

The guitars are mentioned in Tom Wheeler's "The Stratocaster Chronicles" and I believe there is a photograph or two.
