Hi!

I am looking at buying a used Stratocaster Straight Six, it's an MIM FSR put out in 06-08...Only 831 or so were made. I have a good backround on the guitar, but what worries me is: because I play mostly pop and country... with only 1 Bridge Humbucker, will I will lose any chance of getting that country tone? From what I have seen on youtube, it appeals to those of a more hard rock genre.

I play out of a Peavey Delta Blues (which I love), and am open to switching out humbuckers/modding a little bit.

Anyway, I love the look of the guitar and would love to be able to play one, but because it's an fsr getting my hands on it before buying is a little difficult.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
James

I think it was probably designed for hard rock (like Van Halen), so unless you're talking high powered country, I'd say it isn't good for country. You don't like Teles?

IMO it is not a guitar for you , buy a "standard " Stratocaster or a Telecaster but in any case try them before buying.

Not much twang, if that's what you're looking for.

I don't know much about this guitar in particular but I always go back to my tele for country. IMO you can't beat a tele to get that country tone. That's not to say that country players don't use strats, but I can never get the country sound I'm looking for when I pick up my strats. I think you will miss the single coil sound as well.

+1

Bottom line -- the Straight Shooter as built is a one-trick pony. And that foal is more suited to rock than country.

Or you could go with the Avril Lavigne Signature Tele, a 3-trick pony with 3-way switch - neck single, humbucker, bridge single. It's an interesting take and the sounds are pretty different one from another, considering it's all the same coil-tapped humbucker.

Yes, it's a Squier and you can still get it for $279 from most music outlets. There is a new blackout version, too, with plain black pickguard and skull and crossbones on the neck where the star used to be. I like this one better.

Thanks for all the helpful responses everyone... I love the body and the way a strat has that sound, and also love Tele's...

I'm leaning towards not purchasing the guitar and waiting for another one to come around. I don't mind spending the extra money and waiting.

Just curious. Have you tried rolling the bass and middle off of an amp's EQ with this guitar to see what kind of tone you get?

:D I loved this straight six model so much I bought five of them from all over the USA
the main reason I love them is they have satin neck -big C necks not like the skinnier MIM necks
also the middle pickup does not get in the way
I changed the pickguard colors for each one
the second big reason I love them is they have satin black paint body
-not glossy
the neck is very comfortable for me- probably the most comfortable I have ever felt and I have about 40 stratocasters
The humbucker is very bright and squeals some harmonics a bit -but not like the steve vai or Joe satriani Ibanez though which I have both of
I have four telecasters -one has bone nut and brass saddles which give it a snappier brighter string ringing
the set bridge in telecaster unlike the floating tremolo allows for more steel pedal -like bends from telecaster
for increased "twang" you cannot beat a telecaster

It sounds to me like you need both a Strat and a Tele. There is no other way around it. Of course after you get your Strat and Tele you have to have a Tele with B bender. :D

I have a Straght Six Strat that I bought when they came out, it is not good for country music.

You need to get one of these.
