I'll let you guys know right off the bat that I am not really a Fender buff by any means so I am clueless about a lot of stuff related to them. The reason I made this account was because I'm selling an Ibanez Artcore guitar on Kijiji and this guy wants to trade me two guitars for it. One being a Jackson guitar and the other being this Fender Strat that looks strange to me. He gave me no info other than these pictures. Is this a legitimate Strat or a bootleg? I'd like to know as much as I can about it... as well as a value if possible. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know what it is, but I'd like to hear/play it.

It's not a Plus, wrong nut, has string trees and the Lace Sensors look to be a modern version that's been set up in an Ultra configuration, even to the 3 way mini switch.

I don't know of any current or former model like that, but I'm not an expert.

You've come to the right place for one though.

I think it's a shiny Partscaster and the value is in the eye of the buyer.

The configuration is slightly different than the Ultra: a Blue in the neck, a Silver in the middle and a humbucking Red/Silver dually in the bridge. Also, the 3-way coil-tap toggle switch is placed into a different location.

The Blue/Silver/Red-Silver combo is pretty nice, though. :P

I'm no expert and maybe it's the photos that are contorting the shape, but the body and headstock look elongated to me and not like a Fender body, at least to my eyes.

Certainly a Partscaster, but a well done one IMHO. Without seeing the parts in their original spec, the best we can do is say the neck and body would appear to be either MIM or MIC since the seller says it is an "Offshore" one.

+1 on the headstock, that is not Fender. It might be Strat-style, or Strat-like, but I wouldn't bet on an actual Fender Strat. We see some unusual paint jobs from Fender, but no way that headstock is their factory job.

THE STRAT was a version of the Stratocaster which was produced 1980-1983. They were very heavy. They had gold hardware and a high output bridge pickup. The only characteristics of this guitar which fit the original descriptions are the sparkle finish on the neck and matching headstock. The shape of the headstock on THE STRAT was less curvelinear in outline than its mates, so be careful about using that as a diagnostic criterion. The logo is lacking certain script characteristic of the originals. It may have worn. The pickups are chronologically 6-10 years younger than the guitar's model year. The hardware is NOT gold. It should be, nor are the pot caps stock. If you can get a serial number off the guitar...neck plate???.....a neck end date and a body date out of the neck pocket all the better. It may be truly THE STRAT, neck and body, upgraded and modded. Bottom line: It's been modded quite tastefully IMHO. If you dig Lace Sensor pups, the wiring as presented, if it's plays well, and the price suits your pocket, why not???

Looks to me like a tricked out Squier in disguise. :?:

ZZ Doc - I can't tell for sure from the photo but I think the OPs guitar has the truss rod adjustment access on the headstock. "The Strat" had the truss rod adjustment at the heel like a vintage Fender. I could be wrong, that could just be how that paint is sticking to the walnut truss rod plug - assuming that the headstock was stripped before refinishing.

Good eye. One thing IS for sure. The bridge assembly is NOT factory stock for "The Strat". I'll stick to my closing remarks on this one.

+1

This guitar is definitely a partscaster.

Headstock decal is not correct-period for a "Strat".

Ditto for the bridge and control knobs.
