Hi,

I just purchased a new 2013 Fender American Standard HSS Stratocaster. I wanted to upgrade the saddled to GraphTechs. I spoke with a guitar tech at FenderUSA and was told that the string spacing is 2 3/16" on my model. However, I received the guitar today and the spacing seems more like 2 1/16 measuring from the center of the low E saddle screw to the center of the high E saddle screw. Not sure if I am measuring it correct. Would anyone know the specs for the string spacing on this model? See attached image.

Thanks,

Joe

American Strats with the two-point bridge have 2-1/16" string spacing at the bridge. I believe that all Fender two-point bridges are the same.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. The Fender rep said the American Special strat has the 2 1/16 spacing because the bridge is not US made but he said the American Standard has a US made tremolo and the wider spacing at 2 3/16.......guess he did not know what he was talking about. :(

Good guess!

The American Vintage six-screw bridges are 2-3/16" spacing (listed as 2-7/32"), but the two-point are definitely 2-1/16" spacing. Your ruler knows, and so do my digital calipers.

The Am Spcl Strat six-screw bridge is the same as on a Mex Std Strat, 2-1/16" spacing (not sure where they are made), and the rep might have been thinking about the Am Vintage six-screw bridge when he stated 2-3/16" spacing.

I just upgraded the tuners to Fender Deluxe Locking Machine Heads (18:1 ratio). To my surprise the stock American Standard Strat tuners are a 14:1 ratio. I was under the impression that they were 16:1. The Fender Deluxe Locking tuners dropped right in, a very easy mod. These were the tuners I purchased:

Good choice. I put the same tuners on my Am Std and Blacktop Strat, both were drop-in, and work very well. I just ordered an Am Dlx HSS, and it comes stock with these tuners.

I've owned Fender American Deluxe HSS strats and love the compound radius fingerboard and the LSR nut! Will likely get another at some point.
