Hi,

Got one of these via Guitar Center. Well, actually, two. The first one to arrive had the humbucker shaped like an 'A' The middle of the humbucker was up high with the sides pointing down. I sent that one back and ordered another. Figured the humbucker shouldn't be like that. The second arrived and the humbucker was in the same 'A' position. I was going to send it back, but, Guitar Center here isn't getting any more until at least Aug 23 and I really love the swirl pattern on it. So, my question: Is this a defect in the humbucker or intentional? I can't imagine it's intentional. Has anyone seen something like this before?

Thanks,

Don't understand what you mean by the humbucker is shaped like an "A".

There appear to be three adjustment screws for the humbucker. Have you tried adjusting them?

Typically, humbuckers are flat, right? Sort of like this -- Well, on mine, they are like this /\ Now, it's not as bad as that, but they are not flat as I have seen on other guitars.

I have no clue what you are talking about. Please post photos. Meanwhile, try adjusting the pickup using the three screws.

You need to see how the three adjustment screws affect the pickup.

The 3 screws, BlueSky, are for height adjustment of the plate that the bobbins are mounted to, not for how each bobbin sits on the plate. Those humbeckers do look a little A shaped but I have seen it plenty before. Nothing to worry about, but it would also annoy me if it were mine.

BluJason if you are happy with the guitar and don't want to risk sending it back as you will loose that specific swirl pattern, then play the guitar and change out the Humbucker for an upgrade when ready.

You could also strip out the humbucker to see if you can adjust the bobbin spacing, but it is a long shot.

As bluesky636 pointed out, if you use the height adjustment screws, or even just push down at the point where the two halves meet, you might be able to straighten out the level of the pup. Sometimes the same thing also happens with single-coil pups, they can get crooked like that if set too high. Frankly, I wouldn't worry about something so trivial as long as it sounds good. I would be more concerned about the six bridge mounting screws not all being the same height.

I see what Bluesky and Shimmi are suggesting with the height screws now. Suggesting the pickup is too high and compressing the outers of the coils into the pickguard forcing its centres up in a A shape. Could be.

And yeah, those trem screws are just as badly screwed down.

Thanks for the help. I worked the bobbin screws until they almost came out, but the HB is still not level. But, I did screw down the term screws that I hadn't even noticed! So, thanks again for that! The guitar plays fine and the HB works fine, I just thought that it should be level. The HB is level on my other guitars, but they aren't Fenders and it's level on almost every other Fender I have seen, so I was just a bit curious. The color is far too fantastic to return. Fender is going to send out a new HB.
