Hi everyone, I have bought a made in Mexico used Stratocaster and it has black tuning pegs, black bridge and black socket.

Are these original parts?

Sincerely,

Russell

I looked up the serial number on Fender.com and it says 2005-2006.

The truss rod hole should be lined with a black plastic tube. But I once had a MIM Std Tele where the tube came unglued and could be pulled out/off, so that's not 100 percent proof that it's a fake.

It appears to have a maple cap fretboard rather than being a one piece maple neck. A 2005 MIM Strat should have a one piece neck, not a maple cap. But from that one pic it's hard to say for sure.

Pics of the back of the body, the bass side of the neck joint, the sides of the neck, the dots at the 12th fret, and the neck plate would help a more conclusive assessment.

Slightly smaller pics would be nice for those of us who view and post on our phones, but those huge pics are very clear.

A few clues tell me that this is NOT a Mexican Strat, but a cheap Squier with a fake decal on the headstock.

1) The truss rod adjust hole location and no black lining.
2) The location of the pick guard screw closest to the top of the pup selector switch.
3) The pointy tip on the pup selector switch.
4) The decal fonts looks wrong, especially the serial number.
5) As pointed out, looks like a maple cap neck.

As suggested, more pictures would show more detail, but I see enough to know that this is not a Mexican Strat.

+2

The dead giveaway would be a pic of the trem cover that revealed a symmetric mounting-screw configuration.

In any case, the black hardware is likely not original to the instrument.

That black hardware almost looks painted. I'd have to agree with the Squire asessment, like stated pics or the rear will prove it.

In keeping with the hardware and the vibe, I'd spell that 'witch'.

Well guys, I must admit that I am pretty bummed out...

I had a discussion with my bandmate last night about whether the tuning pegs are painted or not. We have a hard time to believe that is true... However he is the first one who told me that the black tuning pegs are not original spurring me to find help on this forum, for which I am grateful to him and you.

This guitar found me. Not the other way around. It was virtually given to me, so I should be thankful no matter what. I will take more pictures tomorrow as I have a show to prepare this evening.

Thanks to everybody for any and all comments.

Sincerely,

Russell

Don't be. If the instrument was a present, enjoy the gift in the spirit for which it was intended. Fender's are like old Chevy's......you can change things around to suit your "druthers". Dittos with the Squiers.
