If you're takling about the MIM stratocaster I believe if you are comfortable with the neck it's a good starting point for some easy upgrades like pick-ups down the road. If you are looking to do upgrades immediately then I would weigh my options between the cost of the upgrades and an American Standard.

I like it a lot. I think the pickups sound good. It feels great. Price was definitely right.

I will say two things, though. First, I tried EVERY Standard Strat in the store before deciding on mine. Some weren't so hot. Second, at first I wasn't sure I was gonna like it at all, but when I polished it, changed strings and added two more springs to the bridge it became wonderful. So, due to the extra springs and higher-gauge strings, my guitar is not 100% stock.

If you're talking about the MIM strat, then you're talking about a guitar which has gotten a lot of flack from know-it-alls on sites such as ultimate guitar and Guitar world. Then again, most of these posters are young kids who think the world revolves around having a Ibanez and knowing only 4 chords.I call them Blink 182 wanna-bes.The MIM strat, especially since Fender did the upgrades a couple of years ago,is in my opinion, the best guitar out there today for the price.I own one,and I couldn't see myself playing anything else. Not everyone can spill out $1,000.00 for a new American standard y'know!

I heard that!!! Well said.

I especially hate reviews on sites such as musicians friend. Most of the time people give a guitar a bad rating just because they bought the wrong guitar.

Yep. It's the same kids that give overdrive pedals or class A amps bad ratings 'cuz they can't get a metal distortion out of it. Idiots who dont' know what they're talking about. It's like giving a banjo a bad rating 'cuz it's not a mandolin.

I think the MIM Standard is one of the best value priced guitars out there. Not too expensive, for the beginner it's easily upgradable as your ear improves. It's even great for the seasoned player who doesn't want to spend a grand on an American Standard. Is it as good as an American Standard? Of course not, but that doesn't mean it isn't or can't be made into a perfectly decent gigable guitar.

A MIM Standard Strat is very much worth the money. With a proper setup they will play as well as Strats in a higher price range.
