That was a succinct response. :)

I have never purchased a Strat that I then later found that I didn't like - would have never purchased it without a full battery of tests. I've played a few that I didn't like (especially don't like the maple-polyurethaned necks). Some Squires that I've tried reminded me why I like the real thing. ;)

Being Left Handed I have had to purchase without trying out on many occasions, so my answer would be: Yes, I have. But it wasn't because they were not well made guitars. I have to bond with a guitar before I will keep it and some I just don't bond with.

I've played many strats I didn't like, but I've never bought any of those. There are many strats, and other guitars (PRS, Taylor, Breedlove, etc) that I do like. I would never buy anything that I wasn't 110% sure was the absolute perfect guitar for me.

I can tell in the first minute when I pick it up. Playing more just confirms it afterwards. I can pick up on strat, and it does nothing for me. I can pick up the exact same model right next to it, and it might be totally different to me. I don't even have to think of what to play, ideas just immediately come out and I literally can't put it down, and know I can play on it all day and night without having to think of "what" to play.

Those are the only guitars I buy.

Never a Fender Stratocaster but I have made purchases in the past only to come home and play it through my gear and not get the same results as I did in the music store. Luckily my local store allows me to exchange items if I'm not 100% satisfied.

Yes, i bought a mint condition Squire Affinity series Stratocaster to practice set-ups and mods. I know it is not a true Fender, but hey, it was $80.
I was not too happy with it. Too cheap in feel and sound.

Isn't the Affinity line like the low end of Squier?

I can't even imagine how wonderful that would be.

I owned a sunburst strat around 74'... I can't even remember where I got it from at this point... it was miserable... The neck would flip from left to right in the body neck pocket and it was virtually impossible to tune.

I think if I had known then what I do now, it would have been a good strat perhaps... for all I know, it was a '57!!!!!

Ive sold strats and rebuilt them with other strat parts but even then a little piece of me would die. Really, I mean you cant dislike a strat, itd be like dislikeing lego. Strats are so modable/customiseable even if you didnt care fo a particular strat(they way it played or sounded) it is rediculously easy to alter them(they way they play/sound).Thats why I love them , there durable, easy to change, and simple to repair(sometimes)haha

first strat I "received" was a standard strat (MIM). Build quality was terrible so I called my local Sam Ash explained my dad had picked me up a guitar I didn't like and told them I wanted to throw down some extra $$ for an american made one.

When I went, they didn't have a HSS strat I liked within my price range but they did have this awesome SSS Highway one that I liked and instantly fell in love with. You get what you pay for. :)

Exactly.

The messed up strats just need someone to set them up properly.

A hard played strat probably needs a fret leveling/recrowning or a refretting in the worst case.

Then hand them to Robin Trower and listen to what transpires ....
