I have not seen one of the new Vintage Models in stores just wondering how they are doing in the Market place as I used to see the 57 and 62 Models in dealer stock more often.

I obviously have not tried one.

I believe the '57 and '62 AVRI Strats have been discontinued, superceded by the new AVS series.

I played examples of the '56 and the '65 recently in a GC and while they both needed some set-up attention, the general feel, sound, and visual vibe was quite accurate to their respective prototypes.

Fortunate your were to find them on the wall in a GC. I find most of their stuff is Mexico or Asia...aimed at a <$1000K consumer.

They were actually on an island display near the entrance (Rocklin, CA store). Flanking them were a John Mayer and an Eric Johnson signature model.

At least Fender isn't standing still. The '65 model is welcome: gotta love that Transition logo.

Indeed it was.

But as it turns out, I saw those guitars at the Alta Arden store.

"CRS" strikes again!

I figured :D Alta Arden GC usually has a better selection overall. Plus FSB GC store guitars are brutally beaten and dented. But they do have a great scratch and dent sale...lol!

+1

The Rocklin store had nothing but bread-and-butter models -- not one re-issue, not even MIM.

OTOH, the GC on Alta Arden was pretty well-stocked with both Fenders and Gibsons, and they had a modest selection of vintage amps.

Skip's on Auburn Boulevard seemed somewhat threadbare for inventory -- one of the sales associates said they were expecting a large Fender shipment shortly. They're also carrying Gibson again.

Now THAT would be a first for me at the Guitar Centers I've frequented in both NY and FL. Never see high end gear displayed near the entrance. To get to the good stuff they usually have to organize a rock climbing expedition to go up the wall to the top where the PRS's dwell.

Same here, higher priced are higher up.

The fellow at the counter said that whatever the pissing contest was, Gibson finally caved and Skip's renewed the franchise. Gibson has made a lot of enemies lately -- it seems as though they're now trying to mend fences.

That would be a wise decision on their part. When the big guys fall apart, the little guy is who will still be there :P

By the way. Do you ever stop in at Encore up in Auburn? Larry is a great fender guy to deal with. Always had great encounters with him.
