Hello everyone, and thank you so much for your thoughts on the subject, but somehow something got misread, the bridge pickup I took out was in fact a single coil Texas Special not a humbucker sorry prepaws but I do appreciate the input just the same. Anyway I believe Martian and Bluesky are correct it's wiring and partially due to my crappy soldering skills.

But part of it is also due to shoddy work done by whoever installed the Texas Specials they were not factory installed pickups the guy who gifted the Strat to me doesn't play and when he bought the guitar he pulled off the rack and handed it to the sales guy and said put Texas Specials in it and not knowing any better he didn't QC the work before the tech closed it up nor did he plug it in afterward, so anyway when I initally pulled the pickguard off I said to myself WTH! it was really sloppy looking I mean the wires weren't trimmed to fit and just smashed up into big ball and stuffed into the cavity and the volume pot didn't look to good it had big gobs of solder with this brown tar looking stuff all over and the switch wasn't much better.

After scratching my head and pulling my hair out I took it to a local shop and asked the tech if he would be willing to take a look and tell me what he thinks I said I didn't want him to fix because I want to do it myself and learn but I just needed some guidance and he was super cool and agreed, so after a brief chuckle at my expense he said I didn't do too bad everything was in the right place but I need to re solder all my grounds especially on the volume pot and he asked about the brownish stains under the solder and I told him it was there before and I couldn't get it off and he also found one of the lugs on the switch was broken the guy was so cool. So I just walked over to the parts counter and bought new pots and a new switch and I'm just going to start from scratch and the guy even told me if I get stuck to give him a call. I always thought this Strat was extra noisy and now I know why.

Good luck. If you continue to have problems, post photos. People like Martian can spot a problem in a heartbeat.

Lol...I remember when I first started wiring guitars...been there done that! The idea of over modulation was a new one. I have rewired many guitars and never heard that one. I have mixed hot pickups with cold pickups, lace sensors with standard pickups, humbuckers with single coils and never had any kind of problem like that. I have mixed up polarity which will usually cause a very thin sound. Usually loud humming has something to do with a ground problem. It was really cool that you found a nice person who was will to try to help you with this problem.

Bill,

Thanks so much for your compliments!

As you know, there is more than abundant proof that high and low output pickups have and will continue to, successfully and quietly coexist in hundreds of thousands of guitars.

I just let the "thinking outside the box" remark go as the "over modulation" scenario was preposterous to begin with.

I admired your taking the high road but I thought prepaws might lead the original poster astray and cause him to abandon the sh-8 thinking that it was somehow incompatible, rather than actually find the cause and cure of the hum and noise problems.

All's well that ends well. I'm glad it's fixed.

You are more than welcome. I believe in giving credit where credit is due.

Just an update, well I finally got time to settle in and start over with the wiring project after work, then yard work, errands and blah blah blah, sat down laid everything out nice and organized and within reach, cracked open an ice cold frothy beverage and started from scratch and went to work.

Took my time kept my soldering tip tinned and clean, wires nice and tidy. New switch, pots and everything, finished up in about 3 hours (I'm a rookie cut me some slack). buttoned my guitar up plugged it in turned the amp on and...Behold! thou hath slayeth the hoard of locust and cast them out with thine mighty soldering pen and silenced them for good. Yessss!!!!!

I'm so stoked, thank you guys for the advice and input you gave and thanks to the Guitar Tech at the local shop I will pay him a visit Monday and thank him in person. My Strat is quieter now than it was before I started, and for the first time since I got it I really enjoyed it because I didn't have to tolerate the annoying buzzing and humming. The Duncan SH-8 is massive Judas Priest Hot Rockin never sounded so good let me tell you with the right amp this guitar will level a small village. And I was very pleased to hear the middle and neck Texas Specials still sound as sweet as they did before. I have a feeling my acoustic is going to get very lonely soon.
