When I was 17 I worked at Sam Goody in Center City Philadelphia -back then (1970) they carried name brand musical instruments. I bought a '70 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe in Heritage Cherry. Had a luthier replace the Gibson frets with Ovation frets and Grover machines. I loved that guitar- had it for two years and had it stolen. It was insured and I replaced it with an SG- never felt as good as that LP. A few years back I was cleaning out a closet and found the original machines for that guitar - I had sealed them in plastic and they looked as brand new as the day I bought the guitar! Still have them, I'm thinking of selling them, but so far I haven;t been able to part with them.
Also, this is not a guitar, but in the mid 70's I was a "lounge lizard" musician, with a duo (me and a drummer)- and we played full time travelling all over the country. I had purchased a Hammond B3 with twin 147 leslie cabinets, and Krueger Bass electronics on the foot pedals- sounded just like a bass. After 5 years of playing, the drummer got married and we stopped playing- I needed cash so I let the rig go at a pawn shop for (I'm so embarrassed) -$500! I kick myself every day for that one.

I regret getting rid of two 1976 Gibson Les Paul customs. One was white and one was black. I got rid of them at the same time "everybody" needed a floyd rose in the 80's!

I had a 70s Strat; Ash body with a clear finish; black pickguard and covers; beautiful! I had a starz guitars preamp; Bill Lawrence Blade humbuckers and I had the strap locks countersunk so it would fit into the case and the other was re-located to the body on the neck cup in line with the neck; had it all shielded; it had a rosewood neck too.
I traded it for a Les Paul; the guy in the music store was tearing it apart before I got out of the store; buyer's remorse Big Time!
I had a '68 Gibson 330; strange guitar; 18 playable frets with P-90s; a trapeze tail piece; wine red cracked all to hell but it played sweet.
Both these axes are now worth WAY more than I paid. And COOL to have as well.

Hello Allanf64,

Gibson still makes them under
the name LeGrand. Now with a
bit of a different tailpiece.

Maybe another, one day,
after the kids finish College.

Cheers.

There's only 2 guitars I've owned that I own no longer--
My first was a plastic one--that was more than a toy--it had 6 strings & was tunable and for a toy was quite good. My brother broke it though. I wouldn't mind having it back--if only for sentimental reasons.

The other one was a cheap-o KMart special, that I don't miss one bit.

Every other one I've ever owned I still have.

I had always planned to get another Firebird... I have parted with guitars that I totally will never miss, last year I sold a B.C. Rich "Bich Supreme" numbered and signed by Bernie Rico... I had it 6 years and sold it back to the original owner for $200 more than I paid. I never really connected with that guitar and he sold it to pay off a strip club habit. (I bought it from the strip club owner) He loved that guitar so I had to sell it back to him.
