You have a great looking first electric guitar! I still have my first electric, a used ES335 copy. After 30+ years it's still a keeper.

The main thing is to have a guitar that draws you to it...you want to play. Then learning to use it is fun and enjoyable.

Got my first guitar lesson in my mid-thirties. I was in my forties before playing in a gigging band. Now that I'm retired, playing is a wonderful way spend time.

Thanks DJ, it is a great sounding guitar and my guitar instructor who teaches advance students, has a recording studio and with over 30 years of playing and instructing said its a great sounding guitar also.

I know we are so fortunate these days to have access to so much and the necessary funds than we did 30-40 years ago. Might not be the good ol quality as they have had in the past but never the less, its much more possible for people to get into hobbies, music etc., than ever before.

I am happy that your first guitar is a keeper, I think I will keep mine too. Cant believe they were copying guitars since then.

I am 43 now and though I loved and lived for music since I was 7 yrs old, I am only now getting into playing. I hope its not too late for me to learn, I know its all about learning good techniques and practicing.

I was fascinated by airplanes, electronics and cars all of which dominated my time growing up. My career and hobbies took off in this path so it was not wasted years but I am still sad that I never picked up music earlier.

I am eager to lean and play, yes I do love this guitar and practice though the fingers hurt at times. I cant wait for the day I can play a complete tune flawlessly, trying to learn Everybody Hurts by REM.

I know it should have been House Of The Rising Sun which is one of my all times favorites, this will be the second song I would like to learn and El Condor Pasa third as this guitarist. He is playing a bit slowly, great way for me to learn.

Thanks for your input and the time to respond.

Cheers.

What's not to like about those? Add military firearms to the mix and that's my shtick.

Rawk on!

It looks like it has the 70's big headstock. Could it be some sort of 'vintage' series, or '70's' reissue??

Nice looking guitar, btw. Squiers are nothing to scoff at, generally, the $250 makes me think it is something along these lines:

Thom, I am not sure of what it represents, the only details I have is what I have uploaded here photos wise.

The link you posted shows the exact guitar I have and the same price too so its more than likely that. I am going to add that to the info notes of my guitar, many thanks for the link.

I purchased it from a reputable Fender distributor, at least I know its not a Chinese knockoff.

It was just a bit confusing being stamped a Standard Squire Stratocaster. I thought a Squire was a Squire and a Stratocaster was a Stratocaster.

That's great Arjay. I have flown a bit of full scale but mostly fly RC Giant Scale, gasoline powered Aerobatic airplanes. Our club meetings are held in one of the most impressive airplane museums here in Canada which also has a full size flying club besides it.

When traveling from the Caribbean on the local carrier, I used to be able to fly in the jump seats in the cockpit at my will, but after that sad September day, I no longer can.

Keep jamming.

Cheers

I called Squire and they sent me the full specs sheet on my guitar.

Here is a few lines from the specs sheet of my guitar.

Model Name: Standard Stratocaster® (Rosewood)
Model Number: 032-1600-(Color#537 Antique Burst)
Body: Agathis
Neck: Maple, C-Shape,
(Polyurethane Finish)
Fingerboard: Rosewood, 9.5” Radius (241 mm)
Large ‘60s Style Headstock

Link to the exact guitar http://shop.absolute-guitars.co.uk/squier-standard-stratocaster---antique-burst-with-rosewood-neck-239-p.asp

So I have found out exactly what my Guitar specs are and what I have, not too bad I think.

Thanks to all those who replied and helped.

Cheers.

+1

I remember when returning from Vietnam after my second tour on a commercial carrier (Braniff 707), the aircraft commander invited me and another returning Army aviator into the cockpit to view our evening approach from the west into SFO. He took an early turn onto his base leg which yielded a lengthy final to the outer marker. The lights of San Francisco were simply stunning.
