The greatest Strat tone? Ronnie Earl. Listen to his record " Language of the Soul". Nothing but a 1961 Dakota Red stratocaster through a 1965 super reverb. No overdubs, no digital recording magic and no effects but his fingers. Pure tone and magic.

Hmmm, that does sound like something that should be checked out. I hope it's on YouTube.

Yes

Neck was clear coated and custom pickups the bridge is an ultra with Locking tuners.
The bridge pickup is a Fender Hot Rod or Atomic in aged white.
The neck pickup is a Hot Alnico 3 that I switched magnet rods to standard Alnico 5s.

Hey, Orville, I thought yours was a '74? Or have you got a '74 and a '75(6)?

And for the heck of it, do you care to tell newcomers about your other Strats made in the fourth year of various decades...?

Cheers - C

Both. The '74 has a rosewood fingerboard and the walnut color.

I didn't plan to collect the "fourth year," but a bit of a pattern developed due to owning a '54, a '64, and a '74. I didn't buy any new Strats in the '80s or '90s. Turns out that an '84 could be hard to find (because of low numbers)!

That's it is, a DH-1 humbucking pickup and two AlNiCo Vs, with the latter originally sporting AlNiCO IIIs.

American Series body with a post-2006 Highway 1 neck, American Deluxe (non-locking) 2-point snap-in trem, Schaller lockers.

Nice partscaster! :P

FYI the picture doesn't reflect those changes.

IMO

#1 Jimi Hendrix, he was in a class all by himself. It didn't matter who the rest of the band was cause it was Jimi and his strat that would blow you away.

#2 Buddy Guy, if you ever heard him play live you just couldn't believe how he could make that strat sing.

#3 David Gilmour, but unlike the above guitarist Gilmour needed Waters. The songs, solo's and sound from the Waters/Gilmour era were epic. When Waters left the band their just weren't any songs, solo's or the sound by Glimour's Pink Floyd that compared except for Pulse.

I've always felt you can get a decent player to play a very high end strat and they will sound decent. If you gave $100 guitar to a great guitarist they would make it sound like it's top of the line. It's all in the fingers and you have to have to feel the music in order for it to sound great.

Hm. Well I was expecting a bit more of a reaction to that snippet from some of the newer users, but still...

Orville, I think you should be saving for a new Strat next year, soon as we can be sure the '13s are gone from the stores. Then you can work back and fill in the missing decades later. :D

(Though if I thought that was really how your mind worked I doubt I'd be mentioning it...)

BTW: on the Gilmour-needs-Waters thing. Earlier today I was listening to The Division Bell, no doubt inspired by this thread. Everytime I come back to that album I like it more and more. I think Gilmour-after-Waters has done some nice stuff. Different from Pink Floyd of the '70s, of course, but then ya can't keep kicking around on the same ground forever...

Cheers - C
