Trying to figure this one out...seller doesn't seem to know. Looking out for a friend here, but I'm just not sure. I seriously doubt that it is a Custom Shop. Does appear to be some sort of American strat though. That being said any opinions?

Got to say I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole. Sellers who "don't know what it is" never strike me as totally honest. It may be a perfectly good guitar, it may be a Squier with a Fender logo, it could be a bunch of old kipper crates with a sunburst finish.

Fake!

That's not an American neck, nor American tuners, and the serial number on CS guitars is on the neck plate, not on the headstock.

It looks like a really nice Squier with fake decal and neck plate.

thanks guys, I knew it wasn't CS...but wasn't sure about any of it really. The 22 fret neck had me wondering. I'll steer my friend in another direction. Plenty of strats out there that don't require guesswork. Funny after posting here the sellers ad has been flagged for removal!

It's back! Guess I'm not familiar enough with squier. I didn't know they had a 22 fret, or that large 70's headstock. This is what makes this forum so valuable.

You know Shimmilou, thats a nice looking Squire. I'm no guitar snob, with an electronics upgrade, and that nice looking top, I think it's a decent guitar indeed. I'd have more respect for a seller trying to sell it for what it is and trying to get a few bucks for a nice top, and stating possibly here were upgrades to the electronics, and adding a case. I have absolutely ZERO respect for anybody trying to pass off something for what it isn't to prey on the uneducated. Bad enough to rub off the squire name, and replace with Fender, but to then add custom shop!!!

+1

Squiers are good value, but not as a vehicle for fraud.

The black plastic around the truss rod hole is the dead giveaway the guitar is not USA made.

Just looked at both of those and both listings are "flagged for removal." Oh well.

Thanks. Yes, it was pretty decent, very good sound just stock, nice looks. I filed the fret ends smoother but the neck was too easy to bend, and I could never get a decent low action on it. Ironically, it was sold to a nice lady from Indonesia who lives here in America and she adores it.

Yeah I guess the CL police were on it. It looked almost exactly like the pic above, only with a CS logo on the back of the headstock, a fake S serial number, and a big FENDER logo where it should say squire. color and select top almost identical.

It's actually a "Standard Series".

That is exactly why I got on Telecaster God's case - he did that exact thing twice and sold the first one "to a friend." Some friend. Next thing you know, that "friend" will have the guitar on CL and there you go, the old cycle repeated.

yeah CR...I followed that a bit. Just no reason for it. Whats worse is trying to justify it, then saying "I'll never sell it".
