Hey, I'm kinda new to guitar. I like to play blues songs ( SRV,John Mayer,Jimi Hendrix etc) but I've only been playing about 4 months with no lessons, just wondering what are some good songs that would be relatively easy to learn and help me work on my skills before I start taking lessons.
Thanks for the input! :)

well there's always that old Smoke on the Water.. Just kidding

Try out SRV's "Life By The Drop", not too difficult and a great tune at the same time. Some of ZZ Top's songs are also good beginner's songs 'cause they have like, three chords or something in them. Think "Tush" or "La Grange".
Other than that, you could just skim around youtube and check for lessons, some are pretty good

Neat thing about blues is that it's very easy to get started on, but has the variety for you to always be learning with.

"Blues Guitar For Dummies" and "Rock Guitar For Dummies" are both very neat books. Both start at a pretty beginner level and take you up to some pretty hard stuff. Also, "Blues Lick Factory" is great for building up your blues chops and starts relatively easy as well.

Learn stuff by Jason Mraz, thats how I started. I would consider him a blues player.

Well, judging on the fact that you hav only been palying for two months, i am not sure what song would be that easy, but when you become just a little bit more experienced, the rythm to Purple Haze is pretty easy

I've been working on the licks from the album "Blues Breakers John Mayall with Eric Clapton" for about seven years. I draw most of my inspiration from the very earliest EC recordings. This would be my recommendation.

If you like Hendrix try The Wind Cries Mary. A simple chord sequence to get started on, and you can work on the solo as you improve.

Lick Library do a DVD that will take you through this and other Hendrix numbers note by note, show you the chord positions and even give you some advice on getting the sound. Not bad for the price of a half hour lesson.

Lessons are good too, though. The self-taught musician has a very ignorant teacher...

The guitar player for The Ramones (I can't remember his name) used all downstrokes played really fast.

I'm a newbie as well and I've been trying to learn Nothing Else Matters by Metallica and even though it is relatively simple it is basically all single notes and tough to remember it all. My wife bet me an american strat if i get the song down. But i feel like the dummy that can't.
