So, here we are yet again. Almost a year or something since I last visited these forums and I must say. MAN DID I MISS THIS! Strats everywhere as far as the eye can see! Feels good to be back (wasn't very active back then so most of you don't even know me! )

Still I have to say I love being surrounded with so much knowledge and so I'm going to introduce you to my babygal' yet again ahah.

She's a 2010 American Standard

Back when I bought her

Amp wise i have a lowly Crate I'm going to replace really soon. It just doesn't cut it anymore and having played guitar for 5 1/2 years now it has been a miracle I still use it. The main reason for it is really my education. Spending a lot of money in college right now and it fills a big part of my time but I'm searching for a replacement. I've been thinking about something like a Blues Junior or something but hey! any kind of advices are welcome! :)

I'm on a budget here mate!

I'm planning on spending like 500/650ish euros (converts to like 650/850 USD)

Still on a very early stage of research and any help will be very useful but i do know I need to squeeze out some of those Clapton and Knopfler tones (something like that)! 8)

If you're seeking for the signature tones of the aforementioned artists you might also consider upgrading the pickups and electronics later. You can't go wrong with a set of Vintage Noiseless pickups with "Elite" circuitry or Texas Specials.

For the late 1980s/early 1990s stuff I'd recommend EMGs and Lace Sensors.

It don't want to mimic their tone but I'd like to go and search for something characteristic around it. Kinda like it has some its vibe but I can put some of my own tone there as well

A serious 'apples and oranges' tone quest for sure. Know that Knopfler chooses his gear to fit the song. His claw-hammer finger style also contributes to the overall result.

Mr. Knopfler is a handfull I'll give you that. I'm searching for something that is a good bang for the buck and is capable of covering those grounds (I am a bit demanding but hey aren't we all with our gear? )

An MIM Standard Stratocaster is an economical platform. Then you'll have to scope out some signal processing to help you tweak that tone.

I already have my Am. Standard and I don't have the buck to go out and get a new guitar. An amp is pretty welcome though

Clapton and Knopfler used (and still use) a variety of guitars and amps over the years.

Both are best known for their endorsement of Soldano amplification in the late 1980s/early 1990s.
