I have a 1997 Anniversary Strat with Texas Specials, 3TSB, RW board, 12-fret pearl 1997 inlay and to my knowledge, only 1997 units made.

Anyone have own one, know more info? I don't see any on ebay and would think with 1997 units floating around (if Fender sold all of them), one would see these and or talked about, as it's a great guitar and even the TS pups sound sweeter to me than current TS pups.

There is no anniversary in 1997, either Fender or the Strat. :?

It's not an anniversary model but it was a limited edition model for 1997. Try searching for them as the "1997 Limited Edition Strat" or "1997 Limited Strat" or some search key like that.

I did get to play one at my local Fender dealer back in 1997; some other lucky person snapped it up before I could get any money together for it. They were really nice - kind of an SRV Strat for those who didn't want the lefty trem or chunkier neck carve.

For 1998 they did up a similar variation on the AV '52 Tele (sunburst finish, gold hardware, 12th fret inlay, etc.).

Thanks John, that's the guitar I meant, Limited. Great sounding Strat, cool 12th Fret inlay, etc. Yeah, definite tip of the hat to SRV.

Wonder why Fender never continued with these limited models.

Thanks.

PS, I guess I have two from this year..technically or not, have a Hendrix Voodoo Strat in White with RW neck, which you also don't see often and also, a great guitar stock Strat.

Cheers!!

They also did a tabacco sunburst Strat with an abalone-inlaid maple neck and gold-plated hardware which belonged to Eric Clapton, if my memory serves.

There's another one-off in cherry sunburst made for EC himself:

This beautiful pair was crafted by J. W. Black.

Both colours remain unauthorized.
