Hi, this is my first post and I'm glad to be here. I recently dug out my old Stratocaster from the closet, I got a renewed urge to start playing again. I also bought a new Marshall DSL 100H tube amp using my Acoustic cab with 6 10's in it. I still have the Acoustic 150 solid state amp that goes with the cab, it was a graduation present from high school and works perfectly since 1972 when new.

The serial # on my guitar is " E857183 " which makes it a Japan model I think. Bought new with a Kahler bridge and neck lock down. Its beautiful axe, and nearly perfect. I decided to put a pearl pick guard on it to spruce it up, and had a hell of time finding one that matched the screw holes in my guitar.

Most all were called 11 hole modern Stratocaster, and have a screw on the upper side of the guard that is just above the second pickup. Mine does not. Mine has the screw in the middle between the first and second pickup. I finally found a pick guard I wanted and bought it, and its for an "old style" Fender.

I hope this comes out ok, thanks in advance for any help.

Warlock...not sure which model you have, but it is NOT a 62 reissue. A 62 reissue would have a rosewood (dark) fret board, NO kahler type trem. Not sure why you think it is MIJ, does it say MIJ on the headstock?

I am sure Chromeface will come by and ID exactly what you do have.

Hi, thanks for responding sir. What do you suppose this means? http://www.wdmusic.com/fender_strat_srv ... _1128.html

This is the only place I could find a pick guard for my Fender that would fit in pearl. Says its the "old style" Fender. My Strat says nothing about where it was made just like an American Fender. I had a MIJ Strat years ago but it was stolen. How ever it said plain as day "Made in Japan"
I had the Kahler tremolo and lock down installed when I bought the guitar new in 85 from a major dealer here in San Antonio and most definitely was told it was American Made.

But I read somewhere that though the "E" in the serial number does mean 1980's American made fenders have 5 numbers after the "E", mine has "6"! And 6 numbers someone said meant Japan. "E857183" And I have found that trying to find out exactly when your Strat was made is impossible because of the way production just grabbed a part, any part and put it in there, with no regard for year matching. So it is just a ball park estimate it looks like just to know what you have, that sucks!

The E8 part would mean 1988, but you said you bought it in 1985? So 1988 can't be right.
Japanese makes sense.

Btw, 22 frets also strikes down the 62 Reissue idea.

Actually, the dots on the neck look funny to me, so?

Absolutely.

You have a '62 style pick guard. Meaning that the screw hole location is between the neck and middle pups, instead of closer to the middle pup as on a modern Strat. That is the only thing remotely '62 about this guitar. It looks Japanese to me also.

This is definitely one of those contemporary Strats with the Kahler Spyder that is most likely MIJ (but has no country of origin on it). As others have said it has a 62-style pickguard, but it's absolutely not a reissue.
