Hi!
Firstly, let me apologize if this issue has been already discussed. I have searched and could not find anything on this. I have bought a (New) SSS American Special and have checked the pickups and they do not seem to be actual Texas special according to the specs posted in the website of the Custom Shop Texas Special. The retailer from whom I bought the guitar is an authorized Fender dealer and the guitar had not -apparently- been used. I would like to know if the specs on the CS website do not correspond to the American special pickups or whether I should reeturn the guitar...

Thanks and sorry for my English.

What you have noticed is true, the Texas Specials in the American Special are not the same as the Custom Shop Texas Specials.

The CS Texas Specials have fiber bobbin and cloth covered wired and a lower ohm rating.

This is also true of the American Special Tele which claims Texas Special pickups also.

Two different Pickups, same name.

This is a good question. Looking at the specs a SRV Stratocaster has the same pickups as the American Special. A call to Fender costumer sevice is in order.

Same pickups or just same name ?

A Mexican made Stratocaster have the same name as American made Stratocaster . Can we say these Stratocaster are same ?

Two different sets of Strat TS pups? I don't know about that. Pictures of the pups (front and back) would help.

Hi,

I just so happen to have an American Special scratchplate in a drawer.

This is the front and back of the Texas special pickup fitted .

It looks and is built very similar to a custom shop Texas Special I put in a Tele a few years ago.

I think that there may have been a FSR American Special that didn't have Texas Specials this may be what you have.

Look similar to a CS Texas Special pickups you said .

Best is to see both side by side . IMO, CS pickups are high end pickups . I don't think Fender put them in a American Special guitar wich is not high end guitar.

Looks the same as every TS set that I've seen, and I don't believe that there are different sets for different guitars, except of course the Tele set is different. Fender uses TS pups in several different models.

Seems likely to me also. Maybe Am Std pups?

I always thought that Texas Specals were the same as Custom Shop Texas Specials.

The Texas Specials in the American Special Tele have plastic bobbins and plastic covered wire. They also do not have staggered magnet poles on the bridge pickup like the Custom Shop Texas Specials.

MIA Statocaster is called "The American Standard Stratocaster". The MIM Stratocaster is called "Standard Stratocaster".

I just spoke with Fender. The Texas Specials on an American Special Stratocaster are not the same pickups as Custom Shop Texas Specials. I was also told that the Custom Shop Texas Specials are wound a little hotter than Am Special Strat pickups.
