Hello, a folk proposed me trading my Fender mim (its a special model, worth for like 500 dollars second hand) for his MusicMan silhouette special, whats its price? Its a good deal?

The music man silhouette seems like an expensive guitar, but how Bout the special model? Its the same or much lower (this is what worries me, maybe its a low-end model, half the price of a standard silhouette).

Thanks!

Do you really want a guitar that the market place long ago determined to be an also-ran?

What's the owner's motivation for offering to trade?

Arjay

One of those guitars I sincerely regret getting rid of, alongside my Patrick Eggle Berlin Pro. Gorgeous necks, excellent pickups, very solid and great sounding guitars for the working musician.

Lovely guitars, definitely beat the spots off a MIM Fender quality wise, probably better built than most US non-CS Fenders too. I'd not be asking "Any good?", I'd be asking "Why the hell is he wanting the trade, what's wrong with it?" , seeing as a used Silo Special still rocks in at a few hundred dollars more than your MIM is worth.

The Special is definitely not the low end version, they're about $1500 new at a decently discounted street price on your side of the pond. ;)

As Arjay says Silhouettes and Silhouette Specials just aren't strong sellers among the EBMM models (and really just about all EBMMs take a larger hit than a Fender on the used market). They are the "low end" of the USA EBMM line, but that still makes them $1,300 to $1,500 MAP price depending on options.

That being said the difference between a Silhouette and a Silhouette Special are as follows:

Silhouette - 24-fret neck, HSH pickups

Silhouette Special - 22-fret neck, choice of HSS or SSS pickups

Both can be had with a fixed bridge or the EBMM vintage trem, and both have Schaller locking tuners.

That being said - if the Silhouette Special is one of the early ones (1995-1996 and possibly into early 1997) then they came with different hardware: a Wilkinson VSV tremolo and 1990s-style Grover locking tuners (they were odd - you wrapped the string around the post and used a thumbscrew on the top of the tuner to clamp it down - most other tuners with a thumbscrew on top the screw clamps down on the string as it goes through the post). These were functional parts but no one has spares for them as they are both out of production.

The final thing to make sure is that this is an EBMM model and not a Sterling model - the Sterlings are MIC and nice enough for what they are but price wise more in line with Squiers.

Definitely worth a check - I keep forgetting they made cut price versions.

Hi thank you very much!

I find this guitar kinda ugly, but if its worth more than my fender, i will try it and maybe later swap it for another strat...

About the sterling/music man issue... Well, at the headstock you can read MUSIC MAN silhouette special so it has to be the music man right? Lol

So yeah, i will trade it!

Although i love my strat :|

Then it's the EBMM - the Sterlings definitely say "Sterling" and actually say "Silo 30" on the headstock instead of "Silhouette Special".

Keep the Strat. You'll be glad you did in the long run. Gotta be something major wrong with the Music man.
