Hi i am new here. i don't know much about fenders but i bought one used for my son whom wanted one. I do play but have other brands. My only fender i ever had was stolen years ago. i bought a fender strat and it is yellow or beighe color like jeff becks guitar. i cannot determine how old or if it is real. the headstock says( fender stratocaster with synchronized tremolo) also (original contour body pat. pend.) also a 2 pat number. i took off the big pick guard and the back and neck to clean up the guitar and bring it in for set up. All i can find written all over under the parts was the number 92 in marker. does this mean the guitar is from 1992? and why does it not have a seriel number. also the back neck plate says nothing also. but yet the guitar looks authentic. any help wpould br great. thanks tim

There should be a serial number on the front of the headstock, the back of the headstock, or on the back of the neck just above where the neck attaches to the body.

It has nothing anywhere and also the fender logo has a gold border around it. with only 2 patent numbers. should be 3 pat numbers i think. So i think it is a fake. I went through this whole guitar and cannot find a seriel number anywhere.

This looks to be like a squire with a fender logo that someone must've put on it. The style of the logo suggests that it's a 70's style strat. But the pickguard isn't period correct (should be 3-ply (3 layers, white-black-white)) and those tuning machines look like aftermarket squire ones. The tremolo block looks like one from a MIM strat, but MIM strats have the serial number on the headstock.

This is either a squire made to look like a strat or a strat made of various parts from other guitars.....the neck is almost definitely not made by Fender due to the lack of a serial number and the tuning machines.

By the way, even squires have serial numbers, so this is something strange in my opinion.

Looks suspicious to me.

EDIT: One more thing, that ground wire isn't insulated, so it's possible that the electronics could short out if the wire touches of something, like the pots, so be careful.

Looks like a parts-o-caster to me too.

well thanks guys. i figured something was odd also with no seriel numbers anywhere. i bought thinking they were hidden. but i believe your right i to think this has been put together with aftermarket parts. Or maybe the guitar was real and the owner trashed it alot and replaced aftermarket with real. Who knows. by the way my son really wants a strat with a floyd rose bridge on it. yes this new generation has a different way of playing. But fender did make a mexican model with it but did they make a USA model with a floyd rose. thanks again Tim
