Thanks for the compliments on the guitar, I'm really happy with it. :D I traded away my 2007 MIM a week after I picked this one up, it has a great feel and very good fretwork. I'm a sucker for natural finishes over woods with good looking grain patterns and I LOVE the looks of this one.

I was mainly wondering if there was some specific model in those years with an ash body, or if Fender offered an American standard with the ash body as some sort of option/limited run etc... People ask me what model it is and I don't know what to tell them. Also, I don't have the trem arm for it and I'm not sure whether one for a MIA standard will fit.

Sharpiman, I traded an amp and cash for this strat and a Carvin CT4M gold top so I don't have an exact price that I paid for it.

I've written elsewhere about the guitar I swapped an EMG DG-20 into. It was a '97 American Standard , rosewood fingerboard as well. Perhaps the finish was just a tad lighter. I'm confident that this is the model you own.

The interesting thing about your photos is the four springs on the block. I removed the center spring in order to seat the battery that drives the DG-20 preamp, but replaced the spring and the stock electronics when I traded the guitar. The guitar is fitted w/the American Standard pickups of that period and the Dynatone circuit.

The DG-20 looked fantastic on that guitar.

I had taken the guitar down off the rack to auditiion an amplifier and purchased the guitar instead. It hadn't been out of its shipping case more than 24 hours. I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $750 for that guitar

I too have a preference for natural finish instruments, once owning a '93 Telecaster Plus in that wood.

Enjoy your guitar and thanks for shaing.

Hi all,

I have the same guitar. The Standard American Swamp Ash Strats were re introduced in 1997. I knew they were coming out and placed an order in 1996. They are a fabulous looking guitar. The tone of Swamp ash is trebly compared to other woods used for bodies. I know they were a limited run but not that it makes it any more expensive or desirable to collect. I am very fond of mine and highly recommend them if you can find a second hand piece.
