Ok,love my 79' Anniversary, but Ive noticed recently that the tuners seem to be "sticking" when turned,Ive backed the set screw {on the center of the top of tuning peg} in and out tried to reset if you will,,but cant seem to find the sweet spot yet. Im thinkin it may need some light machine oil? Or not? Ideas? HHuuummm????.,,,

The 79 Anniversary Strat had sealed tuners. If your guitar still has the original tuners there should be no need to lubricate them. Perhaps an adjustment? The screw on the knob may be too tight. Is that the 'set screw' you speak of? As with most adjustments on a guitar ... a little goes a long way and finding the sweet spot may take some very fine tweaking. I suppose it's also possible the gears may be stripped or in some way damaged but that seems unlikely unless the guitar has experienced some pretty severe trauma.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Hey thanks for reply,,yea,Ive experimented with the set screw,,and wondering if I should back out the screw, take it out and clean it,and the inside threads with a pipe cleaner or something, maybe theres crud in the threads ect, that is keeping it from truly "setting" right. Ill play around w/it and see what happens. I do see a nylon set of washers/spacers on the peg shaft at base. Wonder if those are corroded a bit, constricting movement a bit. Thanks for info.
